Prime example of Name matchup, nothing more as they mostly are entering the season.... We are seduced by laundry in anticipation.

It has come a long way in 20 years or so. I remember in 2004, LSU vs unranked Oregon State was the Gameday matchup. USC and VT was the only other game I remember that weekend and it was earlier in the week.

I’m usually fishing a lot this time of year but I’m probably going to spend that day yelling at my TV.

Belichick vs TCU on Monday

Coach Prime set the bar in his FBS debut by upsetting Sonny Dykes and the TCU Horned Frogs.

Now it’s up to Belichick to keep pace in his first game.

You were the defending national champs playing a P5 game so it makes sense that was the Gameday game. USC/VT was the week zero game.

I do miss them kickoff classics where 2 big teams opened the season against eachother... went away after the 2004 season.

Iowa State/Kansas State will be a nice opener with 2 top 25 ranked teams. Nebraska/Cincinnati will be an interesting game on Thursday... I'm pumped for the season. Friday has a nice slew of games as well. Already took Thursday and Friday off of work! I don't like NIL but i still love CFB.

Only problem is it might be the worst opening Thursday ever

You must have forgot about last year's opening Thursday. We had 4 games and they were...

Murray State at Missouri
Southern Utah at Utah
Lindenwood at Kansas
Western Carolina at NC State

All blowouts

And to think we could have also had USC-Ole Miss, with Lane returning to the coliseum while his daughter is starting at SC as a freshman on the volleyball team. Not all changes to college football have been good.

Edit: and because Lincoln is a bitch.

Yes, but cancelled not too long ago. And it was going to be a home and home series. Was looking forward to a trip to Oxford.

Wow, that would have been a nice series to have on opening weekend.

Yeah that sucks, would have been a good game. I remember Oregon and Ole Miss having a home and home in the 2000s.

From an Iowa fan perspective it will be interesting to see if we continue the Iowa State game as it expires after 2027. I hope we do, but I also miss home and home games with the likes of Arizona and Pitt schools. We won't play 2 P5 OOC games with 9 B1G games scheduled. We apparently had a neutral site game with Notre Dame lined up for Soldier field before the B1G went to a 9 game schedule.

I didn't even know you guys had a home and home with Pitt. Seems like if you had home and home games with a team from the east someone like WVU or VT would be a better fit. 2 passionate, middle of nowhere type fan bases like Iowa.

Any of the days prior to players getting paid?
The days when fans were mostly alumni?
The days when tailgating was "sponsored" by anything?
