Has Josh Hader been one of the worst signings in MLB history?

Hell, is he even worse for the Astros than Abreu was?
The guy has been awful and cost them multiple games for a supposed stud closer.
Just brutal for them, but no sympathy for them.

He signed to be a closer and get the last 3 outs of a game. He's great at that. But Put him in a tie game and shite run down his leg like a mighty river and baseballs rain down beyond the Fences.

“MLB History” ???
That’s a bit excessive.
Abreu was a worse signing. Hader is not doing the pitcher equivalent to Batting .100.

Signing a reliever of any kind to more than a one or two year deal is very risky, relievers are so volatile, even guys like Hader.
I've heard a comparison I find somewhat valid, they are like field goal kickers, they can be going along great, then....a couple of misses and it can go off the rails fast.
That 5-year contract for Hader, man I would not have touched that with a 10-foot pole.

Let’s be honest. Both signings have been pretty dreadful.

Yeah, there was a good bit of interest in Abreu, but no one was going to give him a 3-year deal.....except the Astros.
Same with Hader - five years for a closer and at that price, is VERY risky.

My wife (yuge Astros fan) and I were watching the Skenes/Bregman showdown last night and I heard the Astros announcers say Hader had converted the last 20 save opportunities. They listed his stats when he was brought in before the 9th and I don’t remember any of it being good.
Like someone else said, closers are like kickers.
