re: Has any QB drafted "on potential" every panned out? AR15, Levis, etc

#1 and #2 overall picks.
You're comparing apples to oranges here for the most part.
I mean with Levis sure, but Anthony Richardson was drafted 4th overall.

“On Potential” can be subjective. Levis started for a couple of years.
AR15 only attempted something like 300 passes in college. He was a far bigger project than any of his peers.

His second last year numbers were decent and then they lost a bunch of key players and his stats tanked.

Josh Allen. Patrick Mahomes. Lamar Jackson.
Did you forget that Lamar Jackson was a Heisman trophy winner?

Not sure how best to categorize being drafted on potential if we think some are not drafted on potential.
Any QB not picked in the top 10? That would be the majority.

OP was trying to ask about QBs that weren't good in college AND drafted almost entirely "on potential" ie raw QBs that mostly just had a strong arm and athleticism going for them. A bunch of the replies are just picking one or the other since they misunderstood OP's point

Richardson was taken 4th overall
And was the 3rd QB taken, behind guys who fit the mold of the post I quoted.
My point exactly

And decisively in the 2nd tier of QBs that year.

If you draft a qb 4th overall the intention is for them to lead your franchise for a decade plus.
I know you live for the zag. This must be one of those times because you can’t be that stupid

There are probably more QBs with great numbers that haven’t panned out. Johnny Manziel, Kenny Pickett, Mac Jones, Daniel Jones, Deshaun Watson, Marcus Mariota, Joey Harrington, Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen, Mark Sanchez, Matt Leinart, etc. etc. etc.

No shite that’s why I agreed with you on Levis.

Oh yeah? 3 of the first 4 picks were QB’s. The next QB taken was Levis in the 2nd round. That seams like a pretty clear tier divider.

And it doesn't always work out. What does your comment have to do with this discussion?

I don't even think you understand what is being discussed. Beat your chest, though. It's hilarious

Where did I reference Levis?
He produced in college at an SEC school. He's not a "drafted on potential" guy. He has skins on the wall in the best conference.

And?
Nobody ranked Richardson as anywhere near the QB (I did not say prospect intentionally) in 2023 as Bryce/CJ. The Colts over-drafted AJ due to his physical potential and the unlikeliness (in their eyes) that they'd be drafting that high anytime soon.
I think teams had PTSD from the 2022 QB class as well.

Tom Brady was very mid in college
He wasn't drafted on potential.
New England needed a backup...in the 6th round.
Nobody saw potential. They thought what they saw in College was the ceiling.

I feel like Josh Allen will got a lot of GMs fired over the years to come.
He's just super unique, and trying to find the next one of him will end in complete failure more often than not.

The OP literally lists Levis as an example.
He was fine in college. There are 8 SEC quarterbacks that threw for more yards this year than he did in his last year at Kentucky. I mean hell, he was 11th in the SEC that year. Max Johnson was statistically better than Will Levis in Levis’s best season.
Mel Kiper had Anthony Richardson as the #7 player on his final draft big board.
We know. That’s literally the entire point of the OP.

Lamar is basically the opposite of what this thread is asking. He nearly fell out of the first round despite being incredible in college. A lot of people even thought it was still a reach where he was taken.

Herbert
Allen
Darnold is starting to turn the corner
Jordan Love
Still a really shortlist

2800 yards, 24 tds, 13 ints in 2021
2400 yards, 19 tds, 10 ints in 2022
Real skins on the wall there. Just some prolific shite

Oh, so the entire point of the thread?
