Larry Walker is probably the most underrated player of that era. I know he played in Coors but he absolutely raked
He really was a fantastic athlete. Looking at how late he started and what he accomplished. Easily one of the best hitters ever during his peak. When I jump on Ken Griffey Slugfest on 64, I’ll still draft him

He was one of those dudes who would dominate whichever sport he chose to play
ETA: obviously you pick Griffey first in Slugfest

He's not only underrated, he should have been a first ballot HOFer. People penalize him for Coors but he put up great offensive numbers in Montreal and he even had a 130 OPS+ during his final year in St. Louis. Plus he was a legit five tool player. Ran well and had a cannon arm to go along with his great offensive skills. He would have been an all-time great no matter where he played.

Everyone in that list is pretty hof worthy except for ellis Burks. He had a few good years but not steady.

Heck of a player, but when he didn't play his home games at Coors, he was a .285 hitter.

He had four 30plus HR seasons, all at Coors, and never hit more than 23 HR in a season when he didn't play at Coors.

He accumulated 70 WAR which is 11th all-time for a RF. His HOF Monitor and HOF Standard scores are above the average HOFer. And if people are punishing him for low hit and HR totals, Edgar Martinez will be inducted into the HOF next year with comparable numbers and Edgar added zero value outside of his hitting. Walker was an elite baserunner and defensive outfielder for many years. He put up very good offensive numbers outside of Coors. His OPS+ with the Expos and Cardinals is comparable to the career OPS+ for Dave Winfield, Roberto Clemente, and Tony Gwynn. Walker should be a slam dunk HOFer.

All of this is true. He was a complete ballplayer, a five-tool guy.
Also true is that away from Coors, he was a .285/20/85 guy, a very good fielder with above-average speed.

Any guesses where he was playing in 1996 (and how it’s pertinent to the rest of the discussion)?
