IDK, but he's basically the godfather of the air raid offense.

He doesn't win football games as a HC anymore, though. He resigned at Kentucky over some NCAA stuff. He was ok at Southeastern LA and got the NM State job. He went 11-38 there, got fired. He hasn't coached in D1 football since. His last HC job at Bellhaven, an NAIA school, he went 8-33.

My first thought. He's considered a genius, but Centenary?

My first year in high school our football team sucked and they fired the head coach. They hired a new guy who held a meeting in February to try and recruit students for spring practice. He touted how he was bringing in the Hal Mumme offense and how much points we’d be scoring week in week out. He was fired after 2 seasons only winning 2 games each year lol

The Mumme era at Kentucky was an absolute blast. We had Mike Leach as our OC to boot. Win or lose, it was always entertaining watching that offense go to work. We didn't fire Mumme though, he resigned. Our recruiting coordinator, Claude Bassett, was apparently paying players.

Only 73, I'd have guessed older.

Well, he's got an uphill climb for that. My alma mater wore their arse out last year, but ended up with a losing record.

Their schedule last year was pretty interesting. They played 10 games, but played 4 teams twice.

Went to a Northwestern State -Southeastern game about 20 years ago.
The final score was 87-27, but the game wasn’t that close. Southeastern refused to unit passing, down 40-50 in the fourth. They kept throwing pick sixes and as soon as they got the ball back they would do it some more. Northwestern basically shut down mid third, but the Lions kept slinging to the very end.
Woody Widenhofer of Pittsburgh’s Steel Curtain fame was the DC. He was pulling his hair out and tossing the clipboard because Mumme refused to stop and he kept having to send his guys right back out there.

Was at Evangel when Hal Mumme and staff came in to study their offense. Denny Duron was way ahead of his time and had many coaches visit to learn the Evangel system. It was quite incredible to see just how many high profile guys came in.

I forgot Byron Dawson is now their head coach. Dawson played at LSU the same time that Mumme was coaching Kentucky.

And Tony Franklin was the one that squealed. In a tell-all book no less.

Back at LA Tech as OC. Crazy they’re 45 minutes away from each other in the same role.

Time has revealed who the talent was in the Mumme-Leach partnership and who was more responsible for the Air Raid
