I'll give my detailed analysis....

First and foremost, Blacksburg is in a flood watch until 11:00 P.M. tonight so it should be a very wet and sloppy game. The field can is very advanced and can drain 12 inches of water per hour, so a mud bowl is unrealistic, but it should definitely hinder passing and kicking.

For VT.....the offense will revolve around Logan Thomas this year and why not? He is only 6'6" and 262 pounds. We are experimenting with the Pistol formation for this year so that should add another wrinkle to our spread option game. Michael Holmes at running back is the polar opposite of David Wilson. He is a North-South runner who has average speed but this is his first college game so fumbling could be a worry. The notion that our receivers are dicey is not accurate in my opinion. Our top 3 receivers are all Redshirt-Seniors and very athletic. My worries....as in almost every year....are on the offensive line. 4 new starters but all 4 of those guys have had previous playing experience.

Our defense is slightly banged up at the moment. James Gayle is not starting because of a bad ankle and one of our inside linebackers, Tariq Edwards, probably won't play at all this year. Our starters in the secondary look very good but depth is non-existent. In particular for this game, our new free safety Kyshoen Jarrett, scares me big time with his poor open field tackling.

Georgia Tech should be able to break a few big plays against us on blown assignments or so but I don't think our D will get torched. The heavy rain could cause big problems for the GT offense with regards to option pitches and such. I predict VT to win this game 23-13.

the potential might be there but the snaps are not. Logan got bailed out alot on bad throws last year by WR's with lots of game experience. If he is not accurate like last year he might not get the help he did last year

seems to be the new thing in CFB but as far as yall's spread option its more like bipolar OC calling plays seems like one day its spread next its pro style

We probably rant out of the shotgun about 55% of the time last year. O'Cain's first year of calling plays probably had alot to do with the change to running a more wide open offense.

Beamer can never find a decent OC or has always been to stubborn to make changes when one does not pan out. It is really crazy non of his assistants ever get hired somewhere else and the ones who do are never heard from again.

Wasn't this the game in Atlanta where Tech forgot Glennon's and others jerseys bought or borrowed some from Ga Tech? They used Sharpies to write names on back and cover the GT Russell and draw Nike swooshes.

Well this the one game a year I root for Ga Tech. Go Jackets.
Unfortunately if is the first game of the year, and VT has had plenty of time to work on defending the option. I hate saying nice things about VT, but they do always have a very good to great defense, and special teams are almost always good too

They actually have those "jerseys" in display in the football facilities. Glennon and Tyrod looked comical wearing those. Last year we played GT before Paul Johnson took over. Under Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech is 1-3 against Virginia Tech. The year they won was in 2009 with Nesbitt, Dwyer, Demaryious Thomas, and Anthony Allen. As long as PJ is at GT, he will never have guys that talented running that offense.

As of two years ago when I really paid attention, the problem was never the OC, it was the play calling in the Red Zone and that was never done by the OC, but Beamer and Hite. So many mistakes I have lost count.

As for assistants, I would put Todd Grantham (DC at GA), Tony Ball (GA), Lorenzo "Whammy" Ward (DC at South Carolina), Ricky Bustle (OC at Southern Miss), etc..

But you are right, they have not a breakout HC yet

He was also a HC at one point. I think he left VT for ULL IIRC. Hard to hold losing there against him.

We don't need guys that talented to run our offense, thats the beauty of it. As stated before, defense is what has held us back, not offense. We'll see tonight, if we can get some stops, we will win. CPJ has outschemed Bud Foster everytime and as usual Beamer will be a whiny bitch about cut blocking aka "chop blocking" to VT fans who don't know the difference.
