Watson will be allowed to pay off the victims. Gruden was railroaded in a PC world. There's the difference.

The Deshaun Watson that we thought we knew probably does not exist. We all need to commit to that reality and act accordingly. This includes the media, which has largely (though not entirely) tiptoed around the allegations. I suspect it is in part because Watson has spoken up about social justice issues, and he has fought to get away from a dysfunctional franchise, two causes that have endeared him to many in sports media. I don’t think people are giving him a pass for the assault allegations, but if you think most people in the media will go after him as hard and fast as we would go after, say, Curt Schilling, if he faced these kinds of allegations, you are fooling yourself.

So, he’s not allowed to play. Suspended. Pretty sure LA would like to have him pitch right about now

Pretty sure he’s getting paid, which he wouldn’t be if he were suspended. Also says something about the individuals character that his own union agreed to it.

Again, a more apt comparison would be Ben Roethlisberger because A: it’s the same league and same management, and B: he was actually suspended without pay

Guilty of what? Using bad words isn't a crime, unlike forcing women to suck your dick.

No one is going to put themselves out there crucifying Watson with the risk (even if it is slim) of the allegations coming back false.

This is 180° opposite of how our news media operates.

Maybe it's that little pesky innocent until proven guilty thing. One sent emails that were released; the other is being accused. If he is convicted, he'll never play football again. It's really not that hard.
