Those are baseball players....... the poster I was replying to was making generalizations about history in general.
I actually came across this just now which is interesting.
Sailors in the late 1600s could expect to receive a pretty varied amount of food every week.

Based on that photo Ruth's 23&me says 22% Africa.
Melanin DNA and nose DNA from Africa.
I'm old enough to remember when 6' was "tall". There was a dating club for people 6' and up.

He’s right that we are fat as frick now. Thanks to government legislation in the 1970s

What?
Go look at old pictures...almost nobody is obese up to the 1970's.
That's why Ruth was considered fat at 215 lb...which is nothing today.
NFL lineman were 215 back then.
Art Donovan was called Fatso because he was 275 pounds at 6'2" in the 1950's.
Is there an NFL lineman today that is 275 pounds?

The average height of the American soldier in WW2 was 5'9".

And their average weight was 144.
Most short girls today approach that weight today.
If you were 5'8" during WWI or WWII the Army deemed 135 pounds and a 28 waist as healthy.
Now it's like 185 pounds, 36 inch waist.

Depends on height and body fat. I can tell you when I was 185 lbs (5’9) that I was pretty fat but there’s obviously great athletes out there that are all muscle at that same height/weight

The Yankees held spring training in New Orleans during the early 1920s. I'd imagine that Babe Ruth had a little fun with that.

None of those guys trained. Anybody who looked like that back then was a genetic freak.

Not really true.Babe of all people, was one of the 1st to embrace off season workouts.More conditioning than weights but he started in his late 20's and he credited
the workouts with helping have his best years and saving his career LINK
