Im sure the angle of the pic and being next to that tiny dude are big reasons why but I was shocked at how huge Gehrig looked in it. He was listed at 6’0 200 pounds which is the same as Jacoby Ellsbury

Bambino listed at 6’2 215

Really puts it into perspective when you see Judge listed at 6’7 282

Ruth was only 6'2" and considered a behemouth.

People were tiny back then, not everyone was eating McDonalds all day long - they usually ate one meal a day. It wasn't processed food.

It wasn't full of lard and salt and preservatives.

People who lived during the Great Depression and War are actually how humans should look and did look for all of history until after 1970's. Civil War, WWI, WWII, everyone is rail thin. Not like today.

Jimmy Foxx was known as "The Beast", and was listed at 6', 200.

Hank Aaron played at 5'11", 180.

That’s simply not true. Never in history has a culture organized around eating just one meal a day and people were not rail thin as a rule when there wasn’t famine or other hard times.

And yes, people used to be shorter in general but not everywhere. Nordic peoples, some Chinese groups, some balkans groups, have always been exceptionally taller than the peoples around them.

You take a look at old photos of baseball players, especially pre-war, and they are lean, hard, and look 45 years old.
