ya, it was a cluster and they quit doing it because the roads were so bad the cars were breaking down too much.

also issues with the track planning effecting traffic but mainly the roads were too piss poor for million dollar indy cars to run on

I never knew about this, I googled it and it looks like they ran it in '95 as well. I was 12 at the time so you'd think I'd have some sort of recollection of this but I don't.

I remember being in a building in the CBD watching the race. I was only 6 or 7 so I don’t think I paid much attention

I was only 5 & 6 but can remember watching from my uncle’s office @ the Texaco building (through the pictures they al took). My dad has Robby Gordon & Scott Pruett’s windshield from their wrecked car in the garage still too.

Whoever thought host a race in June in Nola should
Be fired immediately. Watching the race back and seeing the oppressive humidity keep the roads slick and wet is laughable.

Umm IMSA runs in rain so track being wet is a nothing to them.

They were filming JFK also at same time in 92 the NATA and AEMA was in NOLA. as well. It was crazy downtown then.

I’m aware. There’s a point in the race where even cars with rain tires on couldn’t make one of the turns, even @ a crawl. They mentioned how they weren’t prepared for what the oppressive humidity would do to the course after it rained. (Something about the road grime & muck being brought to the surface since the streets were old, making the rain tires
Useless)

My cousin worked for Ford so I got to go in some of the restricted areas. I remember the different sound of the Denon car.

I believe the race sucked because the corners were too tight for passing. The pressure change from the cars were blowing off the sewer drain covers.

I went to the trials for the first year. I don’t remember much of it and was only 11 or so and don’t really know the layout of the city like I do now.

Outside of dodging the potholes and the rats, I am shocked they all survived the race.
