Not remotely.

Maybe you're too young but ever hear of Al Davis before he became senile?

He was the most powerful man in the NFL (and former AFL commissioner) and Pete Rozelle waged war with him for 20 years...constantly taking the Raiders to court and the Raiders won.

Jerry Jones was one of few owners who was friends with Al in his later years and the one who respected him the most.

This is just the league doing their same ol' shite. If you want to do what you want to do...like Al did and Jerry does, the league sees it as an insurrection and will try to quash you, humble you and fine you.

Mara is probably behind this. Dude gets a stick shoved up his arse about everything.

This isn't Goodell, this, like Deflategate, is all about owners having a pissing match.

Goodell was given a five-year extension. Under its terms, he has the possibility of earning as much as $200 million.

The six-member compensation committee consisted of Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, New York Giants co-owner John Mara, and Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II.

I don't see Kraft rocking the boat with his problems with Goodell; same with Bob McNair after his unfortunate comments last year. Clark Hunt seems pretty level and not the type to cause problems. We do know Blank likes attention and complaining, Rooney is a legacy and a strong supporter of Goodell and John Mara is, well, pretty devious.

John Mara is probably the most underhanded owner in the NFL, and that's saying something. From his strong support for Goodell's punishment of the Redskins and Cowboys for violating the collusion regarding the uncapped year, to the support for Goodell in Bountygate and Deflategate,(also somehow avoiding penalties for Giants players talking about going for Kyle Williams's head due to a history of concussions), he's fairly unscrupulous.

Oh wait, let's not forget his oversight (along with Rooney) for the Mueller investigation on whether the NFL had received the Ray Rice videotape.
quote:

Goodell turned to Robert S. Mueller III, who was director of the FBI for 12 years, to lead the inquiry. The probe will be overseen by owners John Mara of the Giants and Art Rooney of the Pittsburgh Steelers, two of Goodell’s strongest supporters. Both are members of key NFL committees and have closely advised Goodell throughout his tenure.

The NFL called the probe independent, and did not discuss how the owners will work with Mueller. But there could be an appearance of conflict: Mara has already indicated he doesn’t think Goodell’s job should be in jeopardy.

Somehow Mueller found that NO ONE had possessed or had seen the video, however:
quote:

The law enforcement official who described sending the video to the NFL spoke on condition of anonymity because an investigation is ongoing. He said he sent the tape five months ago, and played a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: “You’re right. It’s terrible.” The official says he had no further communication with any NFL employee and can’t confirm anyone watched the video.

The person said he was unauthorized to release the video but shared it unsolicited, because he wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice’s punishment.

And finally, let's not forget resigning Josh Brown to a new deal after he terrorized his then-wife at the Pro Bowl. Source link

And that is one the most powerful guys pulling Goodell's strings. And people wonder why the NFL can't get its act together.

And I've found someone who dislikes John Mara even more:

I was saying to a guy at work that Goodell is unaccountable. He's driving the league into the ground fining owners and stars, mishandling the protests and presiding over a significant multi year decline in tv ratings while getting a raise. How did he pull this off? He knows CTE is real and the owners know that's an existential threat to their billion dollar franchises

It's like people don't realize he answers to the owners. He's the villain do they don't have to be.

He's doing precisely what the majority of the league wants, at all times.

It would be a PR & safety disaster for him to actually do that with all the Cowboys & Saints fans that will be in that building.

Unfortunately, draft tickets are given based on a lottery system. As a Dallas resident, I was pretty butthurt to find that out.

As of today, more than 100K have registered.

i'm still waiting for the thousand of pages of evidence against the Saints to be released from the Bountygate thing.

even Tagliabue had to step in and over rule his suspensions on the players who were supposedly trying to hurt other players for a few extra dollars.

but its the current CBA deal that is ruining the NFL more than anything else in my opinion. Light weight practices where guys probably aren't going full speed most of the time and Goodell has too much authority.

I'll bet during the next CBA arrangement, we'll see a strike and the NFL's popularity will take its biggest hit yet.

Why do people keep saying this? The Owners, the owners, the owners...like they are some unified group.

They are a bunch of individual businessmen who probably hate each other for being successful.

Goodell, like all installed dictators has a few owners of the Kabal who installed him, control him and approve of him.

This isn't some unanimous decision...every owner is trying to look out for their own interest and instructing the commissioner to attack other owners as they instructed Rozelle to sue Al Davis for moving the Raiders to L.A. They didn't want the Raiders in L.A. they feared how big the Raiders would become and of course the Rams objected.

Roger had coalition that elected him...that's all it is a coalition of owners...not ALL the owners.

And don’t forget that they ended up suspended Josh Brown last September, over a year after he was suspended one game, because they were starting to get heat for suspended Zeke 6 games with ZERO evidence while Brown had gotten only one game with TONS of evidence

We're all idiots for falling for this. Olympics are over, NBA and NHL playoff stretch starting, Opening Day, and the Masters. This is a stunt by the NFL to grab headlines and get front and center coming into the draft. It's working too, even I am getting sucked in and am choosing sides. Go Jerruh!
