Classy Vladdy Jr with his 14 year, $500MM contract has this to say about his poor performance this year.
"I want people to understand one thing. The money they gave me wasn't for what I'm going to do. It was for what I already did," Guerrero told Batista. "They didn't pay me because I'm going to hit 40 [home runs] every year. They paid me for what I already accomplished. People are confused about that, but I think the same way they do. “

I really don’t mind the big contracts, but you got to hear this as an owner…and think twice about ever doing that again.

He had what…two elite seasons. Unless since they’re Canadian seasons they’re worth less. Who knows. I leave it up to you good people to decide.

I don’t disagree with this, and I think it’s happening with more players than just Vlad. I think that in 2026 there are a lot of players who simply don’t enjoy playing baseball. That shouldn’t affect their effort or motivation because they are supposed to be professionals, but come on.

Well he’s only hit 9 homers this year (only 1 came at home) so his words are speaking pretty loudly. He's been abysmal for someone thats gettting paid a contract like that.

I get it. My statement was too generalized without taking his age into consideration enough. I’ll take the L on that part.
I do stand behind the idea that many players have received big contracts and become “satisfied”. Vlad isn’t the first, but he shouldn’t have said it out loud.

This is 100% wrong.
Obviously, past performance is probably the best predictor of future performance. But, beyond that, there's no truth to that statement.
Frankly, it's dumb.

This is straight from google. Like I already said, my mistake was making it too general without accounting for Vlad’s age. Sure, teams expect high levels of performance to continue, but…
