Baylor vs. Gonzaga averaged 16.92 million viewers last night on CBS. Most watched basketball game, college or pro, since the deciding Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.

lots of people wanted to see Gonzaga make history

That’s how it happened. Zaga would always get extra late night conference games on ESPN2 and the place would be bonkers. Rinse and repeat, finally make the Final Four, and now they’re the 21st century Duke

Probably a carryover from Saturday’s game and people talking about it. That was one of the best basketball games I’ve ever seen

It seemed to be a confluence of factors. No tournament last year, an undefeated team, the UCLA game. I think people were starved for it.

Good sign going forward that sports viewership might start returning

Strange. I was just listening to Chris Russo on the way home a couple of hours ago and he said it did very poorly at about 13 million.

Holy $&@% you posting in a Baylor thread not oozing jealousy and accusing every one of their athletic programs of cheating since the day of their inception?!?

Not sure what to think...

All of that plus the two best teams in the country for the entire season meeting in the championship, which never happens.

The 2021 NCAA men’s basketball championship averaged 16.9 million viewers, the least viewed title game for CBS since it started broadcasting them in 1982, although it beat ratings for the 2018 title game broadcast on Turner.

The UCLA - Gonzaga game had more viewers.

45% of brackets on espn had one of these two teams as the champion

that is probably closer to 70-80% if you throw out all the auto filled brackets

If I wanted to see a bunch of white guys playing fundamental basketball get schooled, I would have just went to a Country Day game.

People are starved for something to watch, and March Madness is huge ratings normally.

Yeah, I had Gonzaga as my title winner. I had LSU in the final four. I thought they could beat Michigan. I definitely didn't have UCLA in the Final Four. I don't anyone but UCLA fans had them in there.
