I mean even if it’s one year for McNeese it’ll be history. If they go 13-6 the rest of the regular season they’ll have the most wins in program history. People will remember this year forever. McNeese knows they won’t be able to keep him if he’s successful at McNeese it’s worth it though

All you have to do is read the game thread on ragin pagin
I've been there maybe twice a few years ago. That place is like the twilight zone delusional. I ain't going back there again
If that's where you heard it, I understand.

Essentially the sentiment there is “anyone but Marlin”. Very few would accept Will Wade, but nearly everyone wants someone who has similar traits.
The Bob Marlin show needs to end. It should’ve ended 7 or 8 years ago.

To be fair, he did say the same thing in another thread yesterday.
Yep. In the thread on Friday:

I kind of hope they whip our asses so our administration can see what a real basketball coach can do even with a program that won less than 35% of its games the year before.
May not have to hope much. I'm unfortunately expecting it.
Oh well. Honestly don’t give two shits about basketball. Didn’t watch the game yesterday. Didn’t even know the score until someone texted me the final. I didn’t even watch the Cajuns’ game in the NCAA Tournament last season.
But even I know that Will Wade is in a whole different stratosphere than Bob Marlin as a coach and manager of a program.

Best part is mcneese embracing wade and everything that comes with it. After the game when he pumping up the crowd they started playing gangsters paradise. They are embracing his persona and gives zero fricks who it offends
95% of LSU fans were like this too. Woodward is a fricking pussy idiot.

We all know that he’s leaving after next year. But it goes to show that it’s possible to win at McNeese and fans show up for it when a winner is put on the court/field.
Hiring Wade puts spotlight on the university and sells a ton of tickets. No reason not to take advantage of that for a couple years. Because McNeese is a stepping stone for any coach that’s successful here.

Well here’s the thing, what Will Wade was doing at LSU with is “strong offer” stuff would have gotten the Cajuns program on multi-year probation at a minimum. Doing it at an SEC program before NIL was “legal” wasn’t a big deal.
So that’s a big reason why many Cajuns fans wouldn’t have taken him a few years ago as the head coach. Now, though, sure. It’s a whole new ballgame and you need a WW-type coach to succeed in college basketball.
In all honesty, I’m actually happy for McNeese. They took a chance, a “risk”, and it appears it will pay off as they hoped within just one year. This team won less than 35% of its games last season.
Wish our university “leadership” would learn something from this, but they won’t.

He's a unicorn for y'all that won't be replicated. Not very often an excellent coach beloved by LSU-first/McNeese-second fans is around for hire.

If he leaves early, whatever school that hires him is writing McNeese a check as well.

No shite but he’s showcasing for the future coaches that it’s possible to have a sellout crowd/support from the area, and get players to Lake Charles to play and be successful. If you look at the players most if not all of them are out of state whether it was NIL or not something got them down here

Nothing is sadder than a die hard LSU fan that has never set foot in a class on campus in Baton Rouge, especially those that graduated from another Louisiana university.
There are plenty of UL Lafayette grads that are LSU fans.
I’ll wear McNeese gear to events when they play LSU, but there is no conflict of interest in being a fan of the team because our goals are very different.
Just because I made a decision to go to a small school, I shouldn’t get to have a rooting interest in Power 5 football? If that the were case, college football wouldn’t be what it is. Let’s face it, P5 teams are effectively semi-pro regional teams.
The looking down on non grad lsu fans and other school grad lsu fans is what gives the Cajuns a bad name.
Respect must be shown for it to be reciprocated. You show no respect therefore you get no respect.

Never thought id see the day that baseball and basketball is more successful than football. Lake Charles has proven time and time again that they’re faithful to McNeese if a winning product is laid out. Now, if they can only right the ship in football.

Bingo. Now McNeese has to just avoid their university leadership pulling a “USL” and making a lazy arse “comfortable” hire to continue the momentum.
Doing so can cause you to lose the momentum Will Wade is building faster than the time it took him to improve the program.

That I have heard for some time now, this is Marlin's sunset job, everyone keeps hoping he will decide to retire.
Have you heard any rumblings about who they might consider as a replacement? I haven't kept up.
I know Byron Starks has done a good job at every place he has been up to now. I know he is 6-8 at BRCC right now but I think that is more because it's his first year there as head coach and is half the win total they had all of last season. My wife and I know Byron and his wife, so I sort of pull for that for them.

If being loyal to your alma mater vs other state schools gives you a bad name then I’m all for having a bad name. Louisiana is one of only two states that worships one University above all others, that school also resides where the seat of government is. There is a reason this state can’t get ahead and the stink starts and ends in Baton Rouge. It is much more than athletics, but go ahead and keep your head in the sand and only support your alma mater when it’s convenient. Lake Charles has so much more potential than Lafayette even, but ya’ll don’t support the school that educates your people. UL has plenty of these fans in Lafayette as well, its the reason we are G5 and not P5. We just have had more success with our limited resources.
Don’t sell yourselves as small time and you might actually become something better.

People will come out support when there’s a solid product put out in front of them. Winning matters. This holds true from High school to the pros in any sport.
