I would like soccer if I had someone to cheer for. When USA soccer has a huge game I am as excited for that as I am for anything. I don't understand all the multiple leagues and shite like that. If Louisiana had a MLS team I'd probably be a huge fan, though that will likely never happen.

So you think people will stop considering it their favorite sport once they turn 55? I think the percentages show that it has been on the rise since it has become a mainstay in 1994. 24 years ago, today's 55 year old was 31. That 1994 WC was really the start of an uninterrupted string of soccer in this country. Anyone 22 amd younger has lived their entire life with professional soccer in America. As the current generation that's 55+ start to die off and the younger generations become that age (in 10-20 years), I don't see how that 1% won't increase.
I'm not predicting it to be the #2 sport by 2030 or anything like that, but you'd be crazy not to notice it's increase in popularity.

I used to work for a place that called people for crap like this back in college. I made shite up all the time just so i could hit my quota. The people that answer the phone and actually give you the time of day to answer retarded questions like this are old people that literally have nothing else to do.

I find it interesting that their seems to be a correlation between the number growing of people admitting they like soccer and the number of people now coming out of the closet

Not exactly. The places where the British colonized like South Africa, Australia and India have cricket and rugby as their favorite sport. Soccer was spread by students studying in England, who eventually returned home, sailors who played the sport in port cities, and British expats to the new world.

That is soccer’s problem. It’s been on the precipice of booming for at least 20 years. It eventually has to take that next step. The USA missing out on the next World Cup isn’t going to help.

Ugh, it's called sampling which is why there is a sampling error % and confidence % included in what I quoted

A) best talent is in Europe. No way in hell I'm waking up at 5am to watch it unless the WC is in the west hemisphere.
B) absolutely horrendous sport to listen to on the radio - bad enough on television because the game day atmosphere is lost, but a radio call will put you to sleep 30 minutes after chugging Red Bull.
