the pathetic acc didnt even bother with a title game back then and Kstate lost by 3 to aggie in the big 12 title game and lost the 2 ranking while fsu sat at home. along with 93 FSU just paid up some long standing debt this year.

Interesting that their starting qb being out didn't hurt them back then

The BCS projections were that the winner of the UF v FSU game would meet the Vols in the title game. UF should have won that game and gotten a rematch against the Vols, who they would have beaten in a rematch, for sure.

A ball bounced off a helmet and landed in Peter Warrick's hands iirc, and also UF forced an FSU fumble in the end zone, UF recovered for a TD but the ball was stripped on the ground and FSU instead only suffered a 2pt safety rather than 7pt TD for UF. This was before instant replay. That victory over UF is what got FSU into the title game.

ETA - anyone downvoting this probably doesn't remember the 98 season. I was at the UF FSU game, in the end zone, and watched the fumble recovery by UF and the ball bounce off the helmet, and I remember the talk about the BCS projections because it was the first year of it.

The 1998 OSU team was one of the greatest CFB teams to not win it all.

Kansas State as well. Those were easily the 2 best teams that year and they both win a title most other years.

Oklahoma State should have been in over Alabama in 2011. Bama didn’t even win their division and also sat their asses at home.

KSU lost Big 12 title game to A&M
UCLA lost to Miami

FSU was next up

If by 1998, you really meant 2000, then I agree.

FSU should not have been in the 2000 BCS title game.

Hard to claim that when you lost to a 6-6 Michigan State team on your own home field.

It was the most frustrating game to watch. Up 24-9 late in the 3rd and the game flipped on a fumbled punt. Then Burke kept completing 50-50 balls to Plaxico Burress that were all completed. Saban was MSU’s coach then.
