FSU may not actually be Bowl eligible

This would be pretty funny if it turns out to be correct

Florida State is scheduled to play in a record 36th consecutive bowl game, the Independence Bowl, against Southern Miss on December 27. Their 6-6 record includes a win over Delaware State, an FCS program. For an FCS opponent to be countable towards bowl eligibility, the FCS program must have awarded at least 90% of the FCS scholarship limit. After our own investigation, we have determined and confirmed that Delaware State has not met the 90% threshold set by the NCAA. As a result, Florida State's bowl countable record is 5-6, thus making them ineligible for a bowl game this season. At present, there are three other bowl eligible teams that were not offered a game and it would be unprecedented for a team to go bowling without either eligibility or a waiver while teams who are eligible stay home.
/r/CFB is the first to report on this after an extended investigation into the number of football scholarships at Delaware State. It is important to note that Delaware State is at no fault here, having complied with NCAA rules regarding scholarships and awards. Based on current NCAA rules, Florida State cannot count a win over Delaware State towards bowl eligibility. Given that the Independence Bowl is a week away, there are several options available with most resulting in Florida State playing in this bowl. However, if they do so, they may do so without being bowl eligible.

I'm sure the NCAA will jump all over this one

They can't replace them this late can they?

Stupid MSM won't report this

That's a pretty arbitrary and strange threshold.
Keep it simple, no FCS wins should count toward bowl eligibility.
Then you don't have to start investigating FCS scholies each bowl season.

So the true number is 56.7????
How to fix this? Stiff financial penalties such as loss of the guarantee DSU would have got from this game, and an unofficial blackball for a period of time from playing FBS opponents.
Also the scholarship status for every player and every team needs to be public information on the roster like height, weight, class, etc.
This is essentially fraud as I'm sure FSU thought they'd be playing a countable opponent

ETA: or, crazy thought, beat 6 FBS teams.

I mean the players at the other schools have stopped practicing and probably went home for the holidays after the seasons end. It's not like FSU can really be replaced.

I'm fairly confident FSU didn't schedule them thinking they'd need the win to be bowl eligible.

It will be an interesting case. If I'm paying ticket prices for what I assume to be a varsity game and I get a meaningless scrimmage through no fault of my own team...

And 8 wins minimum.
That would eliminate a bunch of these meaningless bowl games (seriously, did most people really care about SMU and Louisiana Tech in the DXL Frisco Bowl?)

When teams schedule these cup cakes they dont ask about their scholly numbers. The more likely scenario is that that was the only team available and thats what they had to take. Saban has said many times that we try to play quality teams but there are just certain weekends that NO teams that would fit into that category really want to play anyone tough because its usually the week before a tough rival. Or towards the beginning of the year when they are still working on team gel.
I will tell you that there was nothing about this in any contract for this game. FSU doesnt give a shite if that win counts or not at the moment they sign this contract because #1 they just needed a game to fill the date and #2 they arent expecting to need that win in the first place.
I would like to see a penalty of some kind for FSU here. They should be self policing these things when it gets to the end of the season and they see that that win turns out to be whats keeping them in. There's plenty of precedent here with the NCAA requiring teams to self police any and all other aspects of sports.

Most every school does this

I stopped going to UF rent-a-win games. I understand maybe one per year, but 2 or more is just stupid.
