Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet opted to "save his money" instead of criticizing the officials after a controversial loss to the Denver Nuggets earlier this week.

That wasn't the case following Wednesday's 108-100 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, as the 29-year-old delivered a profane tirade against NBA referees, specifically targeting Ben Taylor

He's not wrong that certain refs seem to always be the ones giving the same players techs or swallowing the whistle for shite that they call the other way for seemingly every other player.

Well said. Measured and reasoned. Some of the refs are just attention whoring douche bags. I guarantee some of them have personal issues with some of the players and they make bad calls out of emotions and feels. Hopefully not for game fixing like Tim Donaghe (sp)

He’s going to get in extra trouble for all the profanities, but it’s honestly about time someone did this. Officials across all sports are clearly not held accountable in any meaningful way, the current system is not working. Maybe public humiliation will.

After watching the (obviously slanted) netflix doc on Donaghy, there is zero doubt in my mind there is both game fixing and corporate narratives being carried out by the officials.

ETA: It's not anything Donaghy said specifically about other refs, but more so when he explained just how easy it would be to do it.

He also did say in that doc that refs had personal animosity toward some players and called games accordingly based on personal issues with players. I doubt much has changed in ref culture since then given how protected these refs still are by the association.

He’s not wrong. There are umpires in MLB doing the same thing. I wish someone had the balls to call them out too.

Josh Richardson had the mics perfectly pick up his audio after a foul call on him. He didn't say it aggressively, no cursing, didn't walk towards the ref or anything like that, his exact quote was, "Just because he throws his head back doesn't mean it's a foul."

He got an immediate tech. Then you watch a game with Draymond Green acting like a complete fool, yelling at refs, walking towards them aggressively, making all kinds of wild gestures, and generally nothing happens. But the best part is, if he does get 1 tech called, that's like paying the tax to do whatever he wants, because he can do all of the above at 5x the level after he gets 1 without getting that 2nd T.

But how dare you tell the ref it shouldn' be a foul if you throw your head back, the horror!!!

That and they discussed before the game that they were going to enforce the carrying(palming) of the ball that AI was famous for.

The worst nba reffed game I have ever watched was the western conference finals when the kings beat the Lakers, but didn't. The fix was totally in.
