I like the idea of having to start with Williams. Haas is to unlikable now to start out with now other that the adorable relationship between Mick and his engineer.
Williams used to be a great team that fell apart but after getting major money pumped into them, they’re looking brighter and brighter.
Now they’re not the most charismatic team but the drivers are likable enough if kinda milk toast. Latifi will probably never do anything and Albon is a stable driver but not sure if he’s a long term solution.
You know who could be an interesting team to latch onto? Alfa Romeo. Everyone but Fighting Tiger loves Bottas and they have a pure rookie coming in so team dynamics will be completely unique for this year.

Go back a few years and I loved the guy. When he came from Williams I was high as hell on him and had no problem with him pushing Hamilton. Even thought he would beat HAM and was excited about seeing it.
Bottas just lacks being a top driver and it looks like hate when you call him out on it. Never ever could he have done what Perez did in Abu Dhabi.

Just like nobody forces base jumpers to jump off buildings, or forces dudes to backflip their snowmobiles, or forces divers into cave diving.

Can I get some real world budgeting numbers for COTA weekend for 2? I would say on the budget end (not eating out at restaurant every meal). Also, what kind of experience for 4 and 5 yo... should I leave them home with family?

First, leave the kids at home. Just the whole bathroom experience should put a nail in that coffin. Also, there's no such thing as a kids meal there. Try a hamburger/fries and drink for $20. Food there is expensive. Can't (if you get caught) bring in any food or drink.
Tickets aside, if after the event you want to go out, by the time you've spent 2 hours trying to get from COTA to your hotel, you're going to be exhausted anyway, and not feel like going out.
But you can stay, spend money on merchandise ($$$) and food ($$$) and attend the concerts. This year was Billy Joel and Twenty-One Pilots. Both great shows. Next year's concerts haven't been announced, yet.
If you don't have a hotel already set up, be prepared to spend $600+ a night. Alternatively, you can book a complete house for that on Airbnb per night.

Depends on how far out you want to stay and if you are driving yourself. This year we had to stay in Round Rock, but used Uber. ~350/night and it was about $30 uber to the shuttle spot.
If you are doing your own driving the uber and shuttle will about negate whatever you pay for parking.
Real world numbers. I could probably do it for under 1500 for 2 people if I was really trying to save money (only stay 2 nights). Realistically, 2000 is bottom number.
Leave the kid. There are a lot of kids there, but I figure at least 8 before I bring my little one. Especially for GA tickets.

I'd say leave the kids at home, Saturday and Sunday would be an all day affair if you really want to get your money worth. The people out there with kids looked to not be enjoying themselves a whole bunch. If you have the chance, go kid-free.

I believe I figured all in with hotel, parking, tickets, gas there/back, and food we were around $2800. There was a couple really nice dinners in there, drinking on 6th Street, food/drinks at COTA will run you between $20-$40 every time you stand in a line.
My wife and I enjoy driving and round trip flights out of Lafayette were ~$600, with a connection in Dallas, and would have been ~7 hours, so the 6 hour drive was a no-brainer. Plus I liked having a vehicle to come/go as we pleased. If you go the driving/parking pass route I'd suggest sticking around after the race for the concert or whatever to kill some time, getting out of the lot and to the hotel took almost 3 hours. We had packed some beers but be prepared to be stuck a while.
Our hotel room(on 8th Street) that was $190/night for 2021 is now $345/night for 2022 so that kind of stinks.
If you plan to go and want to grab dinner somewhere make reservations ASAP. We waited until about 2 weeks out and lots of places were booked up. Even still our dinners at Il Brutto(Italian) and ATX Cocina(hipster Mexican) were damn good and would recommend to anyone.
ETA: The GA ticket experience looked miserable. People staying in place/holding spots all day long baking in the sun didn't look fun to me to I was glad we splurged for grand stand seats and didn't have to worry about toting chairs/blankets/umbrellas/etc.
ETA2: Merchandise on site is crazy expensive, $60 was the cheapest hat I saw, the McLaren Gulf livery hats were $120. The on-sale T shirts from previous year/previous GPs were still $40 each. Needless to say we didn't purchase any of that stuff.

Honestly, looking at this thread… think we should have done a “off season F1 thread” and then did the “2022 F1 Thread” a week before testing.

Just my opinion for 2022 thread, OP should start with the new rules and aero changes...then followed by car reveals/drivers for each team
