Bring Gasly to McLaren!
Posted on 6/16/21 at 6:17 pm to UnluckyTiger
Let Gasely stay where he is. He obviously feels comfortable being the lead driver and doesn’t like being the #2 driver. Where that’s an improvement could he go where he’s the #1 driver? Alpine? Don’t know if that’s a step up from at AT car.

It also basically guarantees Russell to Merc. It was always highly likely, but this removes the question about Ocon.
Good for Ocon. Get that money and drive for your country.

Also there are rumblings Ocon signed a 3 year extension. That is sort of surprising. Cuts off Gasly's exit from Alpha Tauri

$$$$
He is making about 1/3 of Ocon

Damn, can’t believe Ocon got that deal with the potential shifts coming...
Ocon isn’t a bad driver, but kind of goes under the radar for me. Would have thought they would have waited to see what happened with Bottas. There’s going to be a lock in seats for the next few years.

Yeah, not a slight on Ocon at all, but I don't get the 3 year deal either.
Maybe Gasly is asking a lot and Bottas is probably seen as lateral and pricey. Good for Alpine not having the distractions, they can concentrate on next year fully.

There is no fricking way that they were that incompetent. How is that even possible?
I mean, it was pretty obvious throughout drive to survive.
At least she had the humility to step away. Sad as it probably was for their family.

Strange set of events now with the Pirelli deal, and some off the cuff statement that Horner made.
Horner just kind of pumping up his driver said that Perez brought some insider knowledge of what Aston Point Force Racing Stroll is doing to manipulate tire pressures to gain more performance. He was highlighting that Perez isn't just a driver and some of the benefits that bringing and outsider in instead of promoting.
Now, Pirelli releases a new chart to counteract tricks teams are pulling to be within the regulations for tire pressures, but Pirelli realized compromised the tires. Allegedly teams are somehow getting the tire pressures lower with a temperature workaround.
Don't think that RBR and APFRS are the only two playing with pressures, but maybe Horner inadvertently revealed something that was common amoung the two teams that led to a failure.

Well that's pretty interesting...
But still, I think Pirelli has been a disaster since they became sole supplier of F1, and they were a disaster when they became sole supplier of World Superbike.
Michelin and Bridgestone would clean their clock if Pirelli had to actually compete with another tire maker.

Maybe. Let's not forget what Michelin managed to do ib 2005 at Indy.
Makes me wonder if the race at Zandvoort will produce any interesting tire events now.

And we’re back... 3 straight weeks of racing
Wtf is on the Aston, giants vertical triangles on the front wing. Sounds like it measures airflow. I didnt realize they could put things like that on the cars during practice.

BOT and HAM finish at the top of the charts for FP1.
Usually FP1 has some teams running those pitot tube setups. Real world feedback. Not sure what the rules are on how they have to secure them.
That is why going to all sprint race formats could hurt development. FP1 now becomes a race setup time rather than R&D period.

Mazaspin doing his thing early in FP3
He’s finished the last 3 races, think we’re due for a DNF this race

I hate this track so much. It’s an eye sore.

So bottas and hamilton switched chassis.
Hamilton said there is something wrong with the chassis.
We'll see what happens in qualifying.

Not saying it would change anything, but why the frick do Haas and Alfa always rush to be the first out... why not sit back and let other put some rubber down to warm the track and maybe get tows?
Seems like if you were always last, you’d try something different.
Or is Steiner is a rush to get to the hotel bar?
