I like dumb stats but this one is kinda dumb...it’s the first time neither Ham/Bot/Ver have scored any points since 2013. Ver was still carting in 2013 so I guess that’s kinda a silly stat.

Hamilton and Rosberg took each other out in 2914. It could be the first time they scored zero points and both cars finished the race,

Hamilton's brake problem explained...

quote:
Immediately afterwards the Mercedes driver was heard over team radio asking his race engineer Pete Bonnington: "Did I have the magic on?"
"Yeah looks like it was knocked back on," came the reply, before Hamilton said: "Could've sworn I switched it off".
'Brake magic' is understood to be a setting used by Mercedes behind the Safety Car to help heat the brakes by altering, amongst other things, the brake bias settings.
quote:
"Just on the restart, I think when Checo [Perez] moved over towards me, I clicked a switch and it basically switches the brakes off, and I jut went straight," he said. "I had no idea that I’d even touched it."
quote:
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff – who saw his other driver Valtteri Bottas also come home out of the points in 12th – added: “It cannot be called a mistake. He [Hamilton] touched a button and the brake balance changed – it went right forward and obviously the car wouldn’t stop. It was a finger problem.”
quote:
With both Hamilton and Bottas both finishing outside the top ten, Mercedes’ 54-race run of F1 points-finishes ended in Baku on Sunday.

oh...and I also really want to see Gasly join Lando at McLaren. Could be really special...

Are they doing this shite on purpose? Seems suspect 2 races in a row.
You do realize that it was Tsunoda and not Sainz who was the cause of the red flag in qualifying, right?

Just finished watching the delay on F1 TV. So happy for Checo and RB. At least Max didn’t lose ground to HAM. If you would have told me at the start of the race that a RB driver wins and Merc scores 0 points, I would have been happy to take that deal, but now I feel a little cheated. Pirelli needs their asses kicked.

It's interesting that right before the restart Hamilton communicated that he was happy with his position and wouldn't push it with Ver out. Then he went for it, fricked up a settings and he was done.

I don't think he tried to push it. He just got a better jump than Checo.

That restart was an odd one. There was literally no delay between five reds and lights out.

Didn’t he admit over team reading that he switched off something with the brakes?
The reason I ask is he posted to instagram a little while after that “we messed up a setting”…. Not I, but we…

He took the blame over the radio and in post race interviews as well.
He did use we in an Instagram post though. He used we in his Monaco instagram post last weekend as well when describing the screw up.

Just caught the race. Holy shite. What a rollercoaster. If max can't finish, then I'm glad Hamilton didn't score.
Pirelli is going to get some much deserved bad press. Max is so lucky he went in to the farside wall and not the pit lane entrance. Stroll got lucky, too. Feel bad for both of them. Stroll's wreck was just like Mugello with a full speed blowout. That's got to rattle the noggin some.
I'm happy for the top 3. That's a solid podium lineup and well earned with a little luck.

Initial response from Pirelli is that it looks like debris. Said HAM had a cut on his tires as well. I trust Pirelli will actually do a real investigation though.

The Mercedes isn’t performing as good as the Honda. It’s Red Bull’s to lose.
I'm not buying that until we see that type of performance away from these road courses.

The Red Bull car is as good or better than Merc this year. They each have different strengths/weaknesses, Red Bull is definitely the street circuits.
We are in the habit of thinking Merc has the best car, but nothing is really proving so this year. Everyone wants Max and Lewis in equal cars, I think they have it.

Initial armchair response from me is that they both had blowouts on the same tire at the same spot on the track under the same loads with one lap's age difference. It could end up being debris, but man, that's a hell of a coincidence.

I doubt he rubs his social media accounts. Someone else posting and using ‘we’.

He is one of the few that still runs his own. I'm sure he has people who give him help though.
Lando recently said he gave his up to someone else as well.
