Masi was indecisive. He should have allowed the cars through from the get go. Just because he decided it late doesn’t mean it was the wrong call.

I am not talking about previous seasons. I have been watching F1 and NHRA for as long as I can remember. This season which is the one that matters the scales have been even. For Merc to be in it with as dominating as RedBull was all year is impressive.

He didn't allow all the cars through. He made a decision for drama and to give Max the race.
Had he let all the cars through the safety car would have had to stay out.
Edit: saying giving Max the race is not right. He gave the 2nd place car the race. I don't think Masi had a bias to a particular driver.

As they quoted the rules; Race control may allow lapped cars to pass the safety car.
They have that rule so races are decided by racing.

That wasn’t a fight. That was a gift to allow for what was a 14 second gap to close without having to close it with your cars pace.

I imagine the whole FIA room was freaking out at the thought of this season ending in a safety car parade and probably took too long to let the lapped cars through

eta-A safety car always allows the field to bunch up. Have you never watched racing before?

Yep. Then he had to stack them passing with the safety car ending. Which defeats the point of letting them pass, unless the only goal was to put the #2 car in a better position.

Anyone can armchair after a race. He had pace on his older tires that would have carried him to the end. Had the original decision stuck Lewis wins on old tires. The decision changed which means the results did as well.

I think his goal was to let them race. The teams decisions have no impact on what he decided. If Merc had the tires they should have had, they win.
