It's a 3.5 mile course. I'd expect long walks to get to different points on the course?

My parking passes showed up, I thought all tickets were digital? Mine are anyway.

If I remember correctly I think the ticket is a wristband with a scannable tag on it. Similar to one you'd get at a music festival.

quote:

Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali has revealed in an exclusive interview that next year's planned 23-race calendar is set for the earliest season's finish in over a decade, while a third of it could include the Sprint format.

Speaking to Sky Sports News' Craig Slater following the sport's Qatar announcement, the F1 president and CEO - while saying a full 2022 calendar reveal wouldn't be until October 15 - disclosed key details about the schedule.

F1 2022 is set for the record-breaking 23 races which were planned for 2021 before cancellations, while it is also due to start in March and finish in the middle of November.

quote:

He did however reveal that there would be more Sprint events than we have seen this season.

The new F1 Sprint, a short Saturday race that sets the grid for Sunday's showpiece Grand Prix, has been trialled at two 2021 events so far - on incident-filled weekends at Silverstone and Monza - while another is planned for Brazil.

According to Domenicali, the success of those three-day weekends has led to F1 planning to use the format much more in 2022, possibly at seven or eight rounds.

Listening to the latest Missed Apex Techtime, it sounds like the MGU-H might be on the way out after the next generation of rules. I wonder what's going to happen with turbo lag? They also said the new MGU-K's will be pushing close to 400 HP, which is insane.

Some of us hate Lewis Hamilton. Some of us Hate Max Verstappen. All of us hate sprint qualifying.

Seriously, sprint qualifying sucks major arse. The only reason I could see them thinking this is a good idea is the track promotors like the additional $$ figures for people showing up on Friday and they've gotten some additional viewership. However, how much of that extra Friday money and additional viewership are people checking it out out of curiosity because its new?

The overwhelming reaction that I've seen online is that people have hated the sprints.

Not a fan, but haven't the two Sprint qualifiers both ended up with the screwed up endings? e.g. Max and Lewis not 1,2, or3?

No. They have crashed in the actual race. The only crazy to come out of it is Perez sucking but he would just do that in the race anyways.

I forgot Hamiltton had that terrible start. So Hamilton did fall back a few spots in Monza.

In Silverstone Perez dropped it and went from starting the sprint in 5th to starting the race in 20th. Max and Lewis swapped starting positions, the starting grid was still a usual Max/Ham/Bot. Alonzo went from 11th to 7th.

In Monzo Lewis went from starting 2nd to 5th, Ricciardo went from 5th to 2nd. Monza gave a little excitement because it hurt Lewis and setup Ricciardo for a really strong start and the eventual race win.

There's potential there for exciting things to happen, however interjecting the sprint just seems to be sticking something in where it just doesn't belong. It overcomplicates the race weekend and, to me, cheapens qualifying and the race itself and lessons the excitement and buildup.

I didn’t want to start a thread for this random question.

How do you think the old era guys would do in today’s cars? Say bring Fangio at his prime to 2021. Or Phil Hill, etc.

Sorta silly thought exercise.

Raw talent is raw talent, but fitness is such a huge role today. Sort of how Tiger changed golf with bringing in fitness and making it a focus. That could be the difference for bringing an old driver into the modern age, but if they were competitive then it stands to reason they would do what it takes to be competitive now.

Those older guys had nerves of steel and raw talent. It would have to translate to some extent. Having superior cars also played a role too. In the same way Hamilton and Vettel received criticism for dominanting with a superior car there is probably room to level the same sorts of criticism despite them being amazing drivers.

RBR running new livery this weekend...gonna be white

quote:

The team has confirmed the livery will be “predominantly white” and inspired by the legendary Honda RA 272 car, in which US racer Richie Ginther secured the company’s maiden Formula 1 win at the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix.

You also have to consider how much goes into driving modern cars, they're closer to a spaceship than a 60s car. Drivers now have so much fine control with all of the electronic systems, and they're constantly changing settings throughout the race. The old school guys would have A LOT to learn.

Just compare an old school 60's steering wheel vs a modern one

Red Bull(and I believe Alpha Tauri, no pics yet) are running a special livery this weekend to celebrate Honda/Japan. I really like this look for the Red Bull, I think in both cases of Red Bull and the Gulf McLaren in Monaco their special liveries look much better than their normal liveries.

Almost every car looks better in Gulf IMO

The Red Bull looks sharp. Too bad they couldn't run it at Suzuka.
