Merc did to Bottas today exactly what they told him they wouldn’t allow him to do to Lewis last week.

Lewis made Merc's decision instead of asking permission. I really like Bottas, but he has no balls.

Mclaren did not look good today. Not sure what is up with that.

Russell has to be gutted. No one to blame but himself, lost his first points yet again.

Yeah, I’m done on the Russell hype. I don’t think he’s as humble as people thing and he’s allergic to points.

They’ve been slow all weekend. Likely playing cautious with not much data on the track.

Bottas has told Mercedes to do stuff but they obviously go out of there way to protect their poster boy.

Toto essentially said he is done...shelf life and all that. Wonder how this impacts Hamilton if any?

With the tyres? I watched on delay and didn’t see everything. I saw Hamilton lucked out by pitting right as the VSC came out, which seemed to seal the deal. Also Bottas had the car damage.

What else did Hamilton do that Bottas couldn’t or didn’t do?

Hamilton just said he was going to lay down some serious lap times and did so. Laying down more than half a second faster times while in traffic gives you credibility for the request.

Then HAM got seriously lucky with the VSC.

It was a similar scenario, but looking back Merc had the right move with Bottas last time. The softs wouldn't have helped, only put him on a different strategy which would have ultimately not helped.

They used BOT to cover Max, which was the best option to maintain the 1-2. If Max went to the hard compound and kept pace or was somehow faster then he stays in front of HAM and goes in front of BOT.

They bring HAM in after Max they have the same potential.

A track that wasn't conducive for passing, whatever damage BOT, HAM throwing down the laps he did, then the VSC allowed the flip to happen.

Any of those doesn't happen and BOT probably stays in the lead. Before the VSC there was no guarantee HAM comes out the pits ahead of BOT.

Gotcha. Bottas was running very well early and thought he might hold on given the lack of passing.

While watching it, this is what I figured Merc's biggest goal for the day was... they had a great chance to put away the constructors championship and were all in

After BOT and VER pitted, Lewis said screw it, I'm gonna push... then he caught a lucky break with the VSC and that changed everything

Yeah, just not strong today. You'd think they'd be trying a little more with them being so close in the points for the best of the rest.

I didn't see any post race interviews, but his reaction while sitting against the barrier said it all. He was pissed at himself. Such an amateur mistake.

They had nothing to lose leaving HAM out. He was going to filter out into 3 no matter what until the VSC.

Let him push like hell and maybe he gets lucky. BOT having the damage might have actually saved them the 1-2 because if he is lapping half a second quicker HAM would have been pulled in to go on hards.

Or maybe they leave him out and anyway since there was such a gap to 4.

Like someone said, he seems allergic to points.

Seeing the comments from other drivers on his social media is heartwarming. Makes me think he is pretty well liked in the paddock.

Yep

I think the only strategy to leaving him out was to go hammertime and hope to gain the over cut or VSC... which he did

Regardless of gap... once Bottas on new hards with damage would have started equaling or doing better than Hamiltons pace on old mediums, it would have been time to call him in, just like you said above

I believe this too.

They were just trying to better his third place and not necessarily take 1st.

Max gets plenty of praise for how he drives, but him keeping the pressure today and forcing Bottas into mistakes is really underrated. I don't say this taking away from Max, but that Red Bull car is really really good. Shame they can't get a solid driver in it. Or a shame whatever team dynamic they have makes the #2 fall apart like they do.

A RB #2 even in 4th place forces HAM to pit early and leaves Max to lean on BOT.

Any interest in Yuki’s future with RB? Or in F1 in general?
