Former Browns 1st round pick Braylon Edwards saved a man's life

The former NFL receiver, and star for the Michigan Wolverines, was the Good Samaritan who stepped in when the 80-year-old man was being attacked inside of the facility's locker room.
For his heroic efforts, Edwards was spotlighted by the NFLPA on Friday. But he brushed aside the praise, and provided the update on the man he helped.
"Once again, I want to thank everyone for all the love, but I really was just doing the right thing," Edwards, a 2005 first-round pick by the Cleveland Browns, said on social media

When he got into the locker room, he saw the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Malik Ali Smith, hitting Khel's head against the counter. At this point, Khel was slumped over and unconscious, and Edwards flew to get Smith off of the elderly man.
Smith fled the scene, but was quickly picked up in the surrounding area. He was arrested and has now been charged with assault with intent to murder.

This is a scary story. I've been waiting to hear on updates about the current condition of the victim, so it's good to know he is out of the hospital. All the talk about old men and how they behave in gym locker rooms makes me wonder what the hell he was doing that set this other dude off. Perhaps the assailant is just a maniac, but it's great for everyone involved that Edwards showed up when he did otherwise this old fella would definitely be dead.

Good on Braylon for stepping in but why the hell was someone beating an 80 year old man?

Pawpaw probably just wanted to get his daily cardio in and finally had enough of certain people blasting “music” on speakerphone.
He likely reflected on how he had risked his life in the military 60 years ago just so these animals could have the freedom to act like animals. His simple request to turn the music down was enough “disrespek” to send Felon’tre into a rage, which resulted in Pawpaw “catching dem hands”.

Dude must have been shocked Edwards caught him.

I was going through quickly and thought it said Akili Smith in the article.

Don’t know what the old man did, but I’m sure it wasn’t worth being beaten to death over. Good on Edwards for stepping in.

He was old and defenseless. My parents raised me to be patient with and to respect the elderly.
My parents took in a homeless vet in a wheelchair. They got him his VA benefits and helped him find a permanent home.
My mom did not accept an award from the President or show up for a banquet for other honorees.
It has to do with how you are raised. Stop blaming the victims of violent crime.

Former University of Michigan wide receiver Braylon Edwards was also at the YMCA, and he said he heard the fight and went to see what was going on. “I walk into the locker room after work, and basically, I hear -- about four rows behind me -- arguing about music and how it was being played too loud,” Edwards said. “So, I’m not paying attention, and I was just minding my business.
