Man there’s got to be some correlation between playing football for that long and having a condition such as ALS.
I hope he’s able to have as much comfort as possible

That’s one hell of a defensive line.
With Singletary in the middle quarterbacking the whole defense. Then one of the underrated/overlooked part of that defense with Mike Richardson, Gary Fencik, Leslie Frazier, and Dave Duerson in the secondary. They had 6 Pro Bowlers and 3 1st Team All-Pro guys just on defense in the starting lineup. There was at least one Pro Bowler at all three levels of the defense. Pretty incredible.

There is, professional football players have a significantly higher incidence of ALS than the general population.
quote:
The results of the study revealed professional football players had triple the risk of death caused by diseases that destroy or damage brain cells compared to other people. It was also discovered that professional football players had a four times greater risk of dying from ALS or Alzheimer’s disease, and had about the same risk of death from Parkinson’s disease as the rest of the general population.2

Angel Hernandez acting like he could whip McMichael's arse was some bs. He should've gotten a field pass to go finish angel.

Incredibly sad and ALS is one of those truly frightening diseases to think about what really happens as it takes over one's body.
It along with Dementia are f'ing horrible diseases, and heart wrenching.
One day your loved one is talking to you, the next day, they don't know who you are. Seriously, just thinking about some of the gut wrenching stuff i've witnessed from friends and their love ones having these diseases almost tears me up.
At least when 1 has cancer, etc, you can spend those last months with them. With these diseases, you can be robbed of your love one for good, and they will NEVER remember who you are. Gotta stop, wife is cutting onions.

Should he be in the Hall of Fame?
2x Pro Bowl
5x All-Pro (2x First-team, 3x Second-team)
95 career sacks
838 career tackles
Seems HOF worthy to me

Well, it was discovered in the late 1800's, I believe. Lou Gehrig wasn't diagnosed until sometime in the 1940s.
So, it's safe to say it was just called Lou Gehrig's Disease as a way for everyday people to be able to easily identify it instead of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. I don't think any medical professionals were or are writing "Lou Gehrig's Disease" in charts for official diagnosis.

forgot which show I was watching when I heard this story. After buddy Ryan gave his final speech to the bears defense at their last team meeting before they played New England in the Super bowl, McMichael picked up a chair and threw it at the chalkboard and broke the chalkboard in half.

I had no idea his stats were that good. I knew he was a very good DLineman on arguably the best defense ever and had a long career with the Bears. I knew he had a long career (14 years with the Pats, Bears, and Packers, but '81-'93 were with CHI). I honestly just remember him as a solid player and a wild, fun loving guy from those 80s Bears teams. Honestly, I was kinda young then and didn't really make the connection that he was the same guy that was on the 85 Bears and the guy from the 4 Horsemen WCW act

But yeah, with those stats, there is certainly an argument to be made that he deserves to have his bust in Canton.
