He allegedly told the player "Your problem is you don't get whooped enough at home."

Even the mean old men I played for didn't think of this. Although I'd probably much rather take my three licks than run till I heave.

all I get when I click on the video is a yoga ad and a cat in a photo ad.

With that said, coaches paddling us in HS in the late 1970's was called "Tuesday."

In 5th grade we had two teachers we would split the day with. It was in a butler building, so the classrooms were connected. If kids acted up they would come across and paddle the kid in front of the entire opposite class, so the other teacher could witness.

It was pretty funny to watch, and had to be embarrassing for the kid getting smoked.

Crazy how those two teachers had very few disciplinary problems. I wonder why that is.

There was a rumor that our principal in elementary school kept a paddle. No clue if it was true but getting the paddle was certainly a behavioral consideration.

The principal of my hs kept a paddle at his desk and wasn't afraid to use it. There were zero disciplinary problems. If this coach felt this was necessary then more power to him. If the school disapproves, they are free to fire him.

Video plays nothing but ads; what kind of idiot thinks that I'm going to sit through 2+ ads? Typical Alabama trash.

I’m in my 40s and EVERY teacher had a paddle in grade school.

That stuff was a regular occurrence when I was in high school. Messed up in school and you got the paddle at practice. Straightened a lot of the crap we used to do in school. Every boys sport handled discipline this way.

We used to get our asses whooped with wooden paddles (they were called licks) by the coaches in jr high and high school. It was worse for those of us that were athletes, but the principal would give licks to regular students for shite like being tardy, running in the hall or having your shirt untucked too. There were girls that were given licks as well. This was 20ish years ago and most of us deserved it back then tbh.

The way it comes off to me, the paddling was a football-related discipline, rather than school-related, which is why it's noteworthy.

Maybe we'll find out more later.
