Food for Thought - Eliminate Offensive Holding and Pass interference penalties

Allow offensive holding and pass interference and be done with it.
You can literally call either of those on any play.
1. Not talking about Defensive holding. Receiver has to be allowed to run a free route. Once ball is in the air anything goes.
2. Offense holds almost every down anyway. It can literally be called on any play.
3. Keep targeting of defenseless player penalties
LET THE DOWNVOTES RAIN!!

So safeties can just lay out defenseless receivers who aren't even looking while the ball is in the air. Holy crap this is one of the worst takes on a website full of bad takes.
I know you "address" that above, but a WR will never make a play on the ball ever again to protect their own lives

So as soon as the ball is in the air, the defender can just tackle any receiver?
They need to go back to the advantage / disadvantage method of officiating.
In situations like holding and PI, a flag is only thrown if one player gains an advantage / puts the opponent at a disadvantage, by commuting the infraction.
Too many "incidental / inadvertent" contact is resulting in penalties, meanwhile, they completely miss the big stuff.
And the "body weight on top of the QB" rule needs to die today. Like, before this Sunday.

Lots of people aren’t capable of thinking outside the confines of what’s always been. The truth is holding and PI didn’t used to be the ticky-tack type shite we see today. By turning holding into something so subtle it gives refs the power to control the game and takes it away from the players.
Pass interference being a spot foul is way too punitive. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Agree, What we saw last night was an aberration. Just trying to start some discussion on changes. SOMETHING to take away the impact of subjective referee calls.
One guy said all it would be is running. Maybe so, but Id rather that than what we saw last night and NFC championship. At least level the playing field.

OP is dumb, but I do hate how holding will get called on a block that is carried out on the other side of the field from where the majority of the play is taking place. if the hold didn't affect the call, then don't fricking call it.

Agree with all of those. My post, while not perfect, was more about finding a way to eliminate the subjectiveness of those 2 penalties in particular.
1. Most Catches are made in space. So I don't think eliminating PI (while keeping a defenseless player penalty) will completely eliminate a pass game.
I'm thinking it will take away bullshite PI calls on a defensive back reaching around to break up a slant and having his hand on the guys back. Guys can fight while ball is in the air but a Safety cant decleat someone on a ball over the middle.
