This would be the domino for the next wave of change. Hopefully creating one football division away from the NCAA. Remember there is no playoff plan for 2026 and beyond.

quote:

Florida State has had renewed in-depth discussions about its long-term future in the ACC in recent weeks, sources told ESPN, with talks reignited following the Seminoles' omission from the College Football Playoff earlier this month. That snub, which occurred after the Seminoles completed a perfect 12-0 regular-season record before winning the ACC championship game, angered many at the university and among its board of trustees, essentially the last straw after a year spent voicing their displeasure with the conference.

quote:

To be clear, Florida State is not leaving the ACC in the near term but is merely weighing its options -- a difficult task that also has come with trepidation among some involved in the talks. The Seminoles have not been shy about voicing their displeasure with the growing revenue gap between the ACC and other conferences; the way the ACC distributes revenue; and the size of their share of the television revenue pie, which they believe should be larger based on ratings and marketability. The shifting collegiate landscape over the past two years has only exacerbated those concerns, as the ACC has fallen further behind the SEC and the Big Ten. Florida State is not the only ACC school that has considered its options. Seven universities -- Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina, Miami, Virginia Tech, Virginia and NC State -- had conversations about their long-term futures in the spring. During a board of trustees meeting in August, Florida State president Richard McCullough made it clear the school would "very seriously" consider leaving the league if things did not change. Any ACC school that wants to leave the conference would have to challenge the grant of rights to be able to get out before joining another league. The grant of rights, which runs through 2036, gives the ACC control over media rights for its member schools -- including the broadcast of games in all sports. In addition, any school that wants to leave the ACC would have to pay an exit fee of three times the league's operating budget, or roughly $120 million.

All of these schools fit naturally within the SEC. I mean, why deny the inevitable? If we're gonna do megaconferences, the SEC should be first.

Like Chip Kelly said recently. It will be one big 65 team league with divisions.

Universities ceding their rights to broadcast networks is so ridiculous in this day and age. Why would the SEC need espn, fox, or cbs to air any games.

The SEC is rich and capable enough to start a streaming service for their conf games.

It won’t 65 teams. There are 34 teams in the SEC and Big 10 next year. They may add a handful more, but won’t almost double. It’ll be 40-48 teams tops.

Don't particularly like people saying FSU is leaving because of the snub. They were already talking of leaving the ACC and if anything some think they were snubbed because of it.
The main reason I don't like it is because it attempts to exonerate the awful and unprecedented action by the committee.

Do it next year, FSU, and you are in the 12 team playoff. Stop crying.

Honestly, I think they are getting this out now because they know it will carry no weight after they get the dogshit beat out of them by UGA.

Other than a total restructure of major college football, FSU is stuck in the ACC until 2036. Period. Maybe they can get out a year earlier but that's it. Between the exit fee and the fee to buy back the tv rights granted to the conference, it's just not affordable before then.

A big part of the wealth of the SEC comes from the tv contract so I'm not so sure about this. The ESPN deal is worth an estimated $300 million per year.

A streaming service would need 1-3 million subscribers per month, depending on pricing, just to equal that revenue. And that's without factoring the overhead of cameras, crew, etc.

Is Kentucky? Virginia?

Texas A&M is like a 3 hour drive from Louisiana.

Lexington, Kentucky is further north than southern Indiana and southern Illinois. It’s only a 3 hour drive to Ohio State from the University of Kentucky.

The University of Virginia is only a 3 hour drive away from Pennsylvania.

The AAU schools of the ACC are going to end up in the B1G…that’s the next wave of realignment. B1G/SEC end up at 24 schools each. “CFP Top 48” is born.

To the B1G:

Florida St
North Carolina
Duke
Virginia
Miami

Possibly Ga Tech

To the SEC:

Clemson
NC State
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Georgia Tech

Both the B1G and SEC expand their footprints into new markets.

Pitt
Boston College
Syracuse
Wake Forest

…Sorry about your luck. Have fun in the AAC.

A 1 loss team with a harder schedule getting in over an undefeated team has happened before.

Florida State announces a Board of Trustees meeting for Friday. As detailed here, they are expected to explore a legal challenge to the ACC’s Grant of Rights. Sources told ESPN FSU officials/lawyers have gone to ACC headquarters at least a half-dozen times to examine the GOR.

It’s the only thing that makes sense. Remove all the other sports and bring back regional sports conferences for every other sport outside of football and re-configure the football team alliances to better fit the top schools.
