Flopping has been an issue for several years in the NBA and seems to be growing as an issue. Watched the highlights from the Heat game this morning and was struck by the fact that with the Heat's last two best chances to tie or win the game the players seemed more interested in drawing a whistle than making the shot. To the refs' credit, even in Miami, they didn't bail Wade or Chalmers out with bs calls.

So has the NBA become worse than soccer?

What will the league do about it in the off season?

No, it's gotten a lot worse...but it will never get as bad as soccer.

Nothing...just tell the refs to get their heads out of their asses and stop giving them the call.

What do you think is to blame? Influx of international players? Pussification of America? Geriatric officials?

Coach K is irate at the topic of flopping too much. If the NBA cracks down on flopping it will almost make Duke players un-draftable.

It's not as bad as soccer, and this is coming from one of the biggest soccer fans on the board.

It just looks worse in the NBA because the guys are a foot taller and weigh about 100 pounds more than soccer players.

I don't really have a problem with this. Players try to draw a foul all the time and sticking your legs out is a time-tested way of drawing contact. I think DWade's attempt was worse than Chalmers, because DWade was wide open and the basket was huge there. Chalmers had an off-balance look and was trying to do his best with what he had.

Now, flopping in the actual sense of the word is a huge problem in the NBA. I am still waiting for someone to hit themselves with someone else arm though. Until then, soccer still takes the cake

How do you have 7000+ posts in less than two months?

Ginobli and other European bitches definitely brought the soccer philosophy into the NBA in the past 10 years or so.

Pussification of America?

Without a doubt.

I actually think that the old school officials would be less likely to call flops. The old school officials will often let the players play. I think it's a lot of the new officials that are being told by the NBA that they need to ensure the safety of the players. Because of this they think that calling bs fouls will get the players to stop the "dangerous" fouls...which it won't.

Meh. Coach K is one of the top coaches in the country in any sport and at any level. He teaches his players to take advantage of every aspect of the game of basketball. Right now, flopping is a part of the game. If you take it away, he will adjust.

And I hate Duke with a passion.

The only thing to blame IMO is the fact that it works. You get touched and move on, nothing happens. You get touched and flail your arms and hold your head, other dude gets a foul (or maybe even a tech or worse). It won't stop until the refs stop rewarding it.

I remember Barkley flopping a lot when I was little. It was obvious and he would still get the calls a lot.

Or how bout Chris Paul dribbling in front of dudes and slowing down, or even stopping completely in some cases, to try and draw the foul. It's frustrating as frick to watch, but it cracks me up that he'd rather do that stupid shite than push the ball and get fast break points.

It's extremely frustrating to watch CP3 do this every game

This. When an NBA player fakes an injury to the point that he's carried out of play on a stretcher, only to return fully "healed" to the field of play less than 5 minutes later, then it'll be comparable to soccer
