Make Altuve, Correa, Springer, and Bregman Astros for life, who cares about money

I like Robert Ford. Steve Sparks, on the other hand, is awful.

Invest in a better bullpen

They caught some breaks but could have easily been undone by a lack of pitching depth in both the ALCS and WS.

A good closer and two solid 6-8th setup guys combined with that offense might win 120 games.

If I heard Smoltz say good take one more time, I was gonna stick a ice pick in my eye. It wasn’t a good take, it was a Shiite call!

Springer is a FA in 2021, Correa in 2022, Bregman in 2023. Nice thought, but those guys aren’t signing up anytime soon

I like Ford and Sparks, but Ford's lack of energy on the final call last night was disappointing. I mean, come on dude, the Astros just won their first World Series after 55 years of playing ball.

You just committed like 85 million to 4 guys. Assuming the average salary ($4MM) over the remaining 21 guys on the roster, that gives Houston a $169MM payroll. But realistically, most of those players would make more than 4 mil. It'd probably closer to $190 million. Houston can't do that.

Reality is that we're not going to be able to sign all these guys long term. Springer is probably going to be a casualty of success. He's the oldest of the group, and will get his own $100 million plus contract. I think they should sign Altuve to a long term extension now. Correa and possibly Bregman down the road. Those younger guys have more cost controlled years ahead. By signing Altuve now, they could stagger the cost and not take on the full burden at the same time.

Altuve is a Boras guy too. Always interesting to see what happens with his clients

He’s in arbitration the next 3 years so they should be fine, correct?

Astros and Cubs are set up in a similar fashion, lot of young, proven talent under control for several years

Yeah and he hired Boras last year. He gon get paid. He already signed a team friendly deal. 4 years $12MM. That deal was for 2014-2017 and has 2 team options for 2018 at $6MM and 2019 at $6.5MM.

He agreed to the contract and the Astros would be in their rights to pick up to 2 options. But coming off the World Series and a likely MVP, it certainly feels like it'd be a good time to decline the options and show the man some appreciation. Even though it's the teams right, it would feel a little slimy to acknowledge the original contract term is over but we're gonna exercise our right to lock you in extraordinarily cheap

I take a look at Cano's contract as a base. At the time, he was considered the best 2B in the game. He was 32 and got 10 yr 240 million. Altuve is 4 years younger. We talking 250-260 million?

Mariners were so desperate to spend on a power bat they overpaid to get Cano.

They actually signed Altuve to a stupid cheap extension a few years back before he blew up. They have options for next year and 2019 on him for like 6 mil each.
