Oh ok, so somebody else got fired? Wow.

Thought it was the same person from the article I read yesterday.

The proper thing to do would be to take ownership and thank ESPN for employment, not gloat about things you do, because they may have once looked charitable but now it just looks like he's trying to inflate his ego.

They would see I used my vacation time last year to volunteer in the orphanages of Haiti. They would see how I ‘adopted’ an elderly Alzheimer’s patient and visited him every week for a year. They would see that every winter I organize a coat drive for those less fortunate in New Haven. They would see how I raised $10,000 for a friend in need when his kids were born four months premature. They would see how I have worked in soup kitchens and convalescent homes since I was a kid. They would see my actions speak louder than my words. They would see that these acts were not done for my glory, but for God’s. They would see that each day I live and will continue to live a life of joy and service.

Good stuff, sounds like a great guy.

Unfortunately for him, this has absolutely nothing to do with why he got fired. Your good deeds don't earn you some kind of "frick-up immunity"

I think you're okay as long as you don't use the "Lin word"....maybe now we even have to say the Lin word when saying it?

Something about a chink in armor.

After they lost a game, and Lin had several turnovers, the headline was something like "Chink in the Armor"...don't know if the guy thought he was being funny or if he really just was that out of touch with using that slang word but he brought quite a bit of embarassment and grief to ESPN..so they axed him over it. Overkill? probably so, but in today's feel good society, it was bound to happen..

sounds like the wrong guess

You're right. I guess ESPN is going to go out of business now and they had to spend some time to hire his replacement.

You think there might be a middle ground between your two statements? So either they didnt lose a penny or they are going out of business?

No chance that the # of manhours spent discussing this problem/PR Spin/damage control are a loss for ESPN?

It's not derogatory or ever been a slur if you are educated. I am not sure why special interest groups started attacking this word and making everyone say Asian...sort of like if Africa changed it's Continent name to Oceania...and then everyone had to call Lin's black teammates Oceania-Americans.

The Occident was the West - the Orient was the East up until the 1950's. Sure, it included everything up to Istanbul as the East...but doesn't being more inclusive under a larger group fulfill the liberal dream?..."we are all the same, no one is different...it takes a village...yada, yada, yada."

I'll be honest, this one baffles me too. Of course, I happen to be a black guy who doesn't even get riled up over the use of the "n" word, but I've always tried to be respectful of what other folks wish to be called. Still, the term "Oriental" was hardly coined to be a racial slur.

The reason I prefer the term Oriental is because it differentiates between Indians and.... Well -- Orientals. It is a useful distinction that has idioticially been PCed nearly to death.
