Is Forsyth County even considered metro Atlanta? That would basically be twice the distance away than Trust Park is.

Yes. Forsyth is within the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area and ARC (Atlanta Regional Commission) MPO area.

Whole lot of Asians and South Asians taking that area over. I'll stay in my nice lily white intown Mayberry enclave.

Still a nice area.

The team won't even be located in town. It'll be 35 miles north in the red, lily-white suburbs of Forsyth County. And Atlanta’s population has greatly gentrified the last 20 years. This ain't the gotcha that you think it is

Similar to the panthers playing out in the suburbs of Miami / Ft Lauderdale.

Zero chance this team is still in Atlanta after 10 seasons.

Congrats to Hartford on the Whalers returning when this team leaves in lets say 2036.

Nah, it'll be the Nordiques. Every Atlanta team must go to Canada. It's in the unwritten bylaws.

Minor league hockey is thriving in smaller markets all over Georgia. I think there will be more interest this time.

Also that pesky Atlanta Shithead Group wouldn’t be the owner

How about the Barves? They must be 20 games up on the Mets after another fantastic offseason, right?

It should be 2 strikes and you're out for cities getting pro franchises.

I could see this working, specifically because it isn't in Atlanta.

Atlanta is a notoriously terrible pro sports city and the uh... culture, in Atlanta doesn't really overlap with hockey very well.

Forsyth county is booming in growth and more family oriented. Lotta families always looking for things to go do. If they can make going to the NHL game an affordable, family friendly outing I can see them filling up the arena.

I was hoping it would be near the Battery (I don't even have to use the interstate to drive there). But Forsyth makes sense since they already own the land.

I don't know about this. It is still way out of town. There aren't many hotels in Cumming, GA and the airport is over an hour away. All traffic will have to flow north on 400. Marta only goes to exit 6, which is over 10 miles away. It's a a huge suburban sprawl. I love the area and go up there to hike a lot. Its just a weird spot for a major sports arena.

It's kind of similar, to a lesser degree, to Buford (or Dacula) where they have the minor league baseball park. It's a cluster for traffic during games, and that's just a few thousand people. But at least there, there is a massive Mall down the road and tons of apartments and hotels to support a major retail/entertainment complex..

Grew up with the Thrashers. Parents had season tickets . I played youth, travel and high school hockey in Atlanta in the late 90s and early 2000s .

I bled the Thrashers and the day they left in 2011 was one of the saddest days of my life

Since 2011 have become a diehard Preds fan

I say this as a Buckhead resident : I would rather have no team at all, than have to drive to basically Dawsonville GA to watch NHL hockey. frick that.

Might as well drive 2 extra hours and watch the preds

Google maps isn't hard to use....check it out and see that the proposed location is 30 miles south of Dawsonville. Weird melt.

It's a 4-5 hour drive from Buckhead to Nashville. "An extra 2 hours" is wildly inaccurate.

Exit 12 is like 30-35 minutes away from Dawsonville and that's if we're talking about the outlets and not the actual town square
