the former power hitting juicer, now light hitting, errrr, non hitting rf'r, played a dangerous game, and lost bigly. NIL and drafted players better beware, and read that fine print.

Did I see the other day he still hadn’t hit a home run this season?

He should absolutely have to pay it back. We dont excuse the loans of the poor and stupid; we shouldn't forgive the loans of the rich and stupid.

Sounds like a good judge.

How many athletes flame out that Big League Advance gets $0 return?

Definitely should have written it with a stop loss clause.

Hiring a lawyer is not always an expense. It's an investment.

I'd expect an avalanche of these stories in the near future. These young kids are poor and foolish are signing all sorts of idiotic agreements I'm sure. The inability to think about the long term or the bigger picture really clouds judgement.

I don’t know that a material economic term would be considered fine print.

It really raises the question of why exactly did he even think they were giving him 2 million dollars in the first place.

Did he think they were just a charity?

He never asked himself why they would be interested in doing such a thing like what's in it for them?

Seems like a good deal both ways. He received semi-life changing money in $2Mil up front without ever having to pay it back.

Seems bad that he now owes $34Mil, but when you’re already making over $300Mil, what will that extra money do for your life?

It seems like an atrocious deal for him specifically. Maybe Fernando Sr. was a deadbeat dad but seems like Jr. shouldn't have been struggling like plenty other Caribbean kids trying to make it in baseball so he shouldn't need a awful loan like this.

Gotta figure that after taxes and agent fees, he might see 40% of that $340M, and of that 40% ($136M), he’ll have give $34M up. Bad deal.

I hope every one of them loses in court. Pay up, a deal is a deal.

I hate disingenuous shite like this.

No, he isn't paying 34 million in exchange for 2 million. He got 2 million and with that assistance parlayed it into 340 million. So even after paying what he contractually owes he's still left with 306 million.

Imagine having fricking 306 million dollars and being so petulant over something this trivial.

They risked $2m that he would make it to the MLB and it paid off. Some lawyers need to form an independent firm advising athletes because this will be a growing trend as NIL evolves
