Bret Bielema's wife Jen was previously an escort. That's how they met. He was in Vegas being a drunken buffoon and she knew he was a CFB head coach and had her sights on him.

That one may be unfounded, but many in Arkansas belive it to be true.

Where there is far, far more smoke, is that Bert was such a drunken mess at Arkansas, it forced Sam Pittman to leave and take the Georgia o-line job.

He had already turned down Saban a couple years before, but Pittman was the key recruiter on that entire staff and he had 5-star DL Solomon Thomas (who's sister at the time actually attneded Arkansas) in the bag. All they had left was the final visit with the parents on campus and Bert was so drunk, he passed out at the dinner in front of the entire Thomas family and they were so pissed, Thomas committed to Stanford and the rest was history. He was the 3rd overall pick in the draft.

Pittman was livid. He was hooking big fish and then Bert would either blow the closing by showing up drunk or even stood up kids and their parents on multiple occasions. One story was that he left a kid hanging one weekend b/c he and Jen were in Vegas. That happened quite a bit apparently. Any time there was a break, instead of recruiting, Bert was gone partying or of town instead of recruiting.

To this day, Pittman has never mentioned Bielema,even though he's praised nearly every other HC he previously worked under. Arkansas was his dream destination, even as a position coach, but he basically left abruptly in the middle of the week to take the Georgia job. The O-linemen even tried to stage an intervention, but everyone was crying and he told them he had to get out from under such an incompetent drunk.

That is as close to solid as anyone in Arkansas will divulge.

i doubt thats much of a stretch. alot of academics at universities cant stand their athletics departments. its just viewed as a necessary evil.

The Glen Rice one is especially hilarious because I think it happened when he was in college at the Great Alaska Shootout.
