Did they even present an award? I kept flipping back and forth to find some type of sports recognition but no luck

Not really. Only the humanitarian awards (Stuart Scott, Ash awards). I was flipping back and forth as well, hoping to see LSU or Burrow win something, but there was no athletic awards given at the athlete awards.

They did award the WNBA and the WNBA PA the Stuart Scott inspire award

The espys simply aren't needed anymore. When I was a middle schooler I couldn't wait for the espys to see all the cool okay categories like best outfield grab, best dunk, best touchdown, etc. Nowawdays with the internet, social media, and a nonstop 24/7 news cycle you don't need an awards show to see all that stuff anymore

The ESPN Nominee Selection Committee gives us the nominees for each award, then the fans vote on the selected nominees to decide the winner.

So it's basically a Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Award.

We need to legitimize a sports awards show. That would be awesome. And have a strict no politics rule.

Tbh, as soon as I saw that Megan Rapino and Sue Bird were hosting, I already knew what kind of show this was going to be. I never even tuned in to try and watch

Everyone expected the ratings to drop this year. It was pre-recorded, lacked a live audience, and we haven’t had sports in months. But that doesn’t explain a drop of this magnitude. This type of epic decline follows a long pattern in ESPN’s attempt to be woker than the Twitter mentions of one of its TV personalities.

1) I didn't even know it was on until Sunday night since I haven't tuned into ESPN since covid shut everything down

2) I don't want another group of people that are way better off than I am telling me that I'm a piece of shite and need to "do better." frick off.

I can't do much but the one thing I can do is not tune in. Now, could I have been wrong in my assumptions that it would be two hours of pandering? Of course. We know know how ESPN operates though so I'm willing to bet I was right.

Such is the hypocrisy of today's sports world.

it has 8 million subscribers. like you i dont see the appeal right now but enough people do for whatever reason

Half of those are the people taking advantage of the Disney Plus and Hulu bundle. If the House of Mouse offered to take a dollar off their bill if they dropped ESPN+, their subscribers would drop by a third in a month.

True sports fans have no interest in watching two lesbians tell us how white people are evil and should apologize to minorities.

From the looks of it, white men aren't tuning in as much to hear their propaganda

Other than European soccer and Nascar, which most Americans don't care about, there hasn't been sports in 3 months.

Nice work Jemele Hill and ESPN.

Perhaps a radical agenda combined with the threat of cord cutting isn’t a good idea for a sports news company. Just a thought.

Espn isn’t going back to anything. These people never “revert” back it’s going to be the new norm until we stop watching it completely or another competitor takes over and puts them to pasture.
