I don't know. Apparently Kyrie Irving's birthday is bigger news on ESPN.com today too.

Very odd to get rustled about this. If this were for Jerry or Kraft, it would get some acknowledgement. I can’t think of anybody beyond those two, maybe Daniel Snyder, but only because they would celebrate the impending name change of the ‘Skins.

We have the final funeral today of Mr. Benson, the owner of an NFL franchise of 33 ish years as well as an NBA team. There are several who's who's that are gathered together from multiple sports for Mr. Benson's funeral and there is zero coverage nor acknowledgement of it at least via their main page of their website. Nothing on the main NFL page neither.

Maybe i'm a little to close to the situation but, i'd say this is a pretty big event to acknowledge today.

SO with all that said, go frick yourself once again ESPN.

You are looking way too much into this. He was not the most prominent owner in the NFL or NBA and there is usually not a lot of coverage when one of these guys dies. Jerry Jones or Robert Kraft will surely get more coverage but they are national names, unlike Mr Benson.

If Tom Brady and belichik was at krafts funeral today, I kind of do think it’s be a relevant espn covered story

i dont get the point youre making here. the saints dont have anyone as nationally recognizable as brady or belichick or kraft. i didnt know who benson was until 10 days ago and i still could not point to a photo of him. i could tell you exactly what kraft looks like 5 years ago. and brady and belichick are MUCH more nationally relevant than anything the saints have. so once again, this is a weird thing to be upset about

WCA it’s Saints little sister syndrome. I mean should Disney cover Huyzeinga’s funeral? I mean his teams were more visible than the Saints and Hornets/Pels and they didn’t threaten to move unless the league helped them.

Benson had the Saints off to San Antonio, threatened to build a stadium by Stennis unless the governors office didn’t give him a break.

Well...look at it like this, without black and gold colored glasses.

Today is the second day of the Sweet Sixteen, an NFL owner is being buried, the ridiculously crazy NBA Werstern Conference playoff positioning continues, and Spring Training is wrapping up.

And ESPN's biggest "stories" of the day are an injured basketball player's birthday and a puff piece on Geno Auriemma designed to get you to watch ESPN's coverage of the women's tournament?

Why cover news? Drive down the road 45 minutes and hang out with UConn!

No i do not. But i'm glad you think you have it all figured out. Not too often multiple sports worlds come together for such an intimate moment of someone who has done so much for the sports community. Mickey Loomis, Sean Payton, Alvin Gentry, Anthony Davis, Dell Demps and Drew Brees as pallbearers alone with Roger Goodell and adam Silver in attendance.

Didn't Chris Rose - Times Pic - say Goodell was the big reason Benson kept Saints in Nola? As the story goes - Tagilibue came down to meet with Benson about not moving team. Rose said, I think, that Goodell was the big negotiator.

Who knows.

Legit question what has Benson done for the sports community nationally?

Not a thing I can honestly think of.

I take that back he was an attention whore by dancing with an umbrella. But only Jones and Snyder are attention whores.

You're asking for things like he donated 11 million dollars to Canton Ohio Pro Football Hall of fame?

Served on the NFL's finance committee for 20 years.

There's a TON of other charitable contributions he's done over the years and aside from how classy he was for his team's personnel and players he's employed over the years.

I mean, if you're ignorant to a situation, just say so.

No I asked a legit question you answered it

But again he hasn’t moved the needle. He is a regional guy like the Saints are a regional team.

I mean the big owners like Buss, Jones, Steinbrenner, etc didn’t get coverage of funerals like you’re wanting. When Reinsdorf does does he get a nationally covered funeral?

Name 10 other owners of professional franchises. This is a local event and it's being covered by local media. I don't know why you think ESPN would cover this. At least they have some interest in putting the Geno thing out, they have the women's tournament.

BREAKING: media organizations cover things they have the rights to more than a local news story.

The 1600 people watching the live stream should explain why ESPN is not covering every minute of it

The sendoff for Benson has been over the top.
Was he really that big of a deal to warrant this much coverage?
What a production.
Two days of viewing. Third day is the private funeral.
Bishop and all of New Orleans involved.
I have nothing for respect for all he's done in the community - he didn't have to do any of that but he did on a grand scale.
