I guess I am in the minority then. Yes, the Rose Bowl was fantastic. But I still like watching new blood in the New Year's bowl games. So I had no issue with Stanford/Iowa the year before. I liked Western Michigan/Wisconsin game as well.

People want a team to root for in a match-up.

Most of the nation just doesn't care one way or the other if Stanford or Iowa won that game. On the other hand, many, many people have opinions on PSU and USC.

Huh. I guess so. I had no rooting interest in USC or Penn St at all. I'm a college football fan, so I always watch regardless of who is playing. I guess I am just cut from another cloth then.

I remember when Arizona made the Rose Bowl for the first time in ages. It was very compelling to me, even with no rooting interest. Thrilling game.

so how does everyone feel still about the rose bowl sticking to their guns and not moving off the 2pm pacific new years day time slot ?

i know alot of people were talking shite last year that the rose bowl interfered with the CFP and should take all the blame for the bad ratings and the NYE timeslot.

Love that they have stuck to tradition as much as possible. Love that they initially had no sponsor. They finally caved to the money, but at least have the sponsor after the name, while the others have the sponsor as part of the Bowl name

The new year's Eve time slot is killing them. At least for ESPN next year they fall on New year's day.

However in two years they are going to be played like on December 28th

he games so far in the CFP since it began have been horrendous. There's been 8 total games now and 2 have been competitive.

This has been surprising and disappointing. Plus it seems like it's Bama Clemson and OSU every single year. Washington was a brief breath of fresh air. Bama is a total bore to watch.

I enjoyed the Rose Bowl.. watched it at a friend's house and hung out with their family.

I think ratings in the Deep South Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle got even a bigger boost cause the weather sucked. What better way to ignore the weather by watching a good game like the Rose Bowl?

I watched the Sugar Bowl (half arse) at a bar later on. Auburn's offense was a real drag to watch and in no way where they gonna keep up with Oklahoma. That game was a peanut turd for sure.

Yep, weather did suck here. I was just hoping the power wouldn't go out with all the lightning strikes. The tornado warning passed with no tornadoes as far as I know, and we were able to enjoy a great game.

I hope Monday's game is just as good.

They put them on New Years Eve. Kickoff was at two. Many people are still at work. Later game is when everyone is going out. It's not like Christmas or Thanksgiving when everyone is sitting around after the feast.

The $5.6 billion New Year’s Eve nightmare continued for ESPN, with Saturday’s games averaging only a 10.4 rating, down 32 percent from the 15.4 rating just two years ago.

The low ratings occurred despite the fact that ESPN could not have asked for a luckier draw, as the two games featured the best three fan bases in all of college football (1, Alabama, 2, Ohio State and 3, Clemson) and one of the two biggest fan bases from the west in Washington, according to USA Today’s rankings.

Geographically the 32% drop is from an apples-to-apples comparison, as the 2014 playoffs featured the same best two fan bases (Alabama and Ohio State), subbed the other top western fan base (Oregon) and also had the ACC champ (Florida State in 2014 compared to Clemson this year).

Don't forget half of the idiots on the Rant who asserted that LSU was NOT in a New Year's Day Bowl because they didn't play on Sunday.

Uh we weren't in the NY6 genius.

The playoff games just weren't sexy this year. Bama is boring to watch and I don't care about Washington. I thought the OSU/Clemson game would be great, but it turned out to be a snoozefest so I turned it off after the first quarter. Not to mention the games are on New Year's Eve...people have other stuff going on.

I would give anything to see Clemson make a Rose Bowl.

I bitch and moan sometimes about them going on and on about "the granddaddy of them all", but then you watch it and it's like "yea, this is pretty incredible".

The Rose Bowl is the ultimate prize. Everyone wants their team to win the CFP it's true, but the game itself seems saccharine sweet when compared to what goes down if it's not in Pasadena in January.

There's a reason it's in Alabama's fight song.

The Rose Bowl is outrageously overrated. No one gives a shite about the venue when watching a game on tv. It's all about who is playing. Usually the Rose Bowl is a shite matchup and I usually skip it. The game this year was a good matchup, but it was a sloppy game by both teams with horrible refereeing. It's sad that a lot of football fans think a trash game is an 'instant classic' just because a shitload of points are scored and the game is close. The Sugar Bowl usually has a better and more interesting matchup every year. This year would have been
insane if LSU had been playing Oklahoma. The Dome would have been rocking and the national tv audience would have seen a much better game than what we got with Auburn.
