ESPN and their random stat comparisons

They're pimping out Westbrooks stat line. First player since MJ in 1989 with 40/10/5 in the playoffs, okay I guess that's a semi legit stat.
Then they show KD, and he's the first player since Kobe in '04 with 30/5/5 and no turnovers in a playoff game. What a random stat comparison

Most stats they pimp out are useless. I my stuff like first player to score 30 points while playing under 30 minutes while drinking yellow Gatorade.

ESPN is the king of the random, dumbest stats

I used to make fun of the stats they throw out:
"First player since 1979 with above .300 batting average in the Month of June when it is greater than 80 degrees outside and the player is recently divorced."
But I must say, impressive to somehow pull that out of one's arse.

The way I see it, if it isn't stats in record books, then why bother?
40/10/5 is a great game, I think we ALL can agree on that.
ETA: But I guess it gives a job to someone to look for random facts

I don't have any issue with them pimping out a great game. But I was thinking about this the other day. You can skew all these numbers in various stat categories to show somebody was amazing on a particular night.

They do it constantly, to the point taht every night something "historic" happens. It's their way to sort of create news.
What movie did a great job with this...was it Necessary Roughness, where Rob Schneider was like "The Armadillos improve to X and X on Thursday nights in the rain" or whatever?

One thing I don't like about those kinds of stat lines is that they are misleading.
A guy could have 39/20/25 and not be listed as having as good of a stat line as Westbrook.
Or 65/9/25 wouldn't be listed.
Same thing with the "triple double". A guy could get 65/9/25 every game of the season and not have "triple double".
The number 10 is an arbitrary cut-off point.

Kind of like the stat someone posted about the other day about Lebron passing MJ.

The announcer in Little Big League was good at this.
"And now, he is leading the league in doubles on Sunday for teams who play their home games in domes above the Mason-Dixon line" or something like that.

So we are now complaining about stats? Geez. Westbrook and Durant played incredible. I'd be very interested to see the last time someone had a game like that. Don't get the issue.
