Why not just the whole top 20 at this point? Let's get some 4 loss teams in there too. Go ahead and make the regular season meaningless.
16 is where it will probably end up. People said going to 12 would make the regular season meaningless and. That could be further from the truth.

The greedy ones are those who have fought at every step to keep this sport illegit. For decades we heard from the greedy ones that the bowls must be protected. What they really meant was they wanted to keep their free vacations and access to admissions for family members. Then they fought the BCS because because they knew the second the public tasted #1 vs. #2 they would really how stupid the bowl system was and that it was all lies. Then they tried to hold the line at 4. Now the greedy ones are still fighting to keep others from benefitting. The definition of greed.
Those of you who continue to fight against expansion are just brain washed into believing in the tooth fairy aka the polls. The polls had Clemson, LSU, and FSU highly ranked earlier in the year and yet yo7 believe we should use polls to determine playoff slots. It’s all a joke and you guys are being played as suckers.

lol the FCS and lower divisions have done it for decades, so what makes FBS more special than the rest ?

Go back to the BCS and paying players under the table.

Dang it’s a good thing we don’t use preseason polls to set the playoffs

And nobody cares about their regular seasons at all.
I can’t believe anyone supports putting 9-3 and 8-4 garbage CFB teams in the playoffs.

I used to know these things cold and could point out all the flaws in whatever system. I can't follow it anymore. Here was an article from Yahoo yesterday.

I’m with Saban on this: there needs to be comprehensive reform/alignment/coordination of the entire schedule and format to include not only playoffs but also recruitment/signing/transfer windows, commitment requirements for players and coaches, base player contracts, television contracts, league alignment, etc.
If it’s gonna be a professional league, then be professional…

Saban is nothing but a hypocrite from the dirty past of cheating. He never said a word while he was doing everything under the sun at Bama to get an advantage. The only reason he’s saying something now is that he knows in a wild west system there are people, like him, who will take advantage so now he wants guard rails. He never asked for guard rails for the bag man/ Camaro system.
The good news is the old guard has lost control because people with way more money have taken over (TV execs) and they can’t stand anyone invading their 100 year scam. And it’s not stopping. The public wants more playoff games and more access for teams. The bowls are dead and the NCAA is essentially dead- thankfully.

The stakes of regular season games mean nothing at that point
So every other level of football (highschool, DIII, DII, FCS, NFL) have completely meaningless regular seasons? Who knew

1996 Florida State having to play Florida a second time in the Sugar Bowl right after beating them to finish the season undefeated and #1 says hello.
Ohio State losing to Michigan last year was their second loss and yes, would have eliminated them from title contention in just about every season in the history of the sport, and rightfully so.
This year, there is a real argument to be made that they should rest their starters against Michigan. College football should never have gotten to that point, but here we are.

Need to get rid of conference championship games and the automatic bid for G5 teams
Posted on 11/27/25 at 1:00 pm to DallasTiger11
The NFL has done it, so again, what makes the FBS so special?
Posted on 11/27/25 at 1:02 pm to McMillan
In recent memory, the 1996 Jaguars, 1998 Falcons, 2000 Ravens, 2001 Patriots, 2007 and 11 Giants, etc all reached the postseason after having subpar regular seasons.

Oh God please piss off with this argument. Literally every other sport has a legitimate post season, FBS finally having one isn't going to hurt it especially if they have more rounds with home playoff games

Why is 24 teams legitimate and 12 illegitimate? I don’t want CFB to be like every other sport. I like what made it unique.
Posted on 11/27/25 at 3:03 pm to DallasTiger11
I don't think 12 is illegitimate I'm more speaking about the ones that act like any playoff is bad for the sport.
Also just because something is unique doesn't mean it's good. Having no playoff system was always stupid as hell especially before the BCS where we didn't even have a championship game
