Let’s get those guys on reasonable deals in free agency. I’m not opposed to swapping picks + another young or reasonably priced vet. What I think would be a mistake is making a deal for some fringe all star on a big deal or someone we’d be forced to keep in a year or two on a big deal.

This is gonna be a shitty year for teams looking to spend in FA imo. Tons of teams with space. Probably not as bad as a couple years ago, but their will be a few teams that spend absurd amounts on average players this summer.

Getting decent veterans on reasonable deals is nearly unheard of in a market like New Orleans. If they want to overpay some guys to help build culture for 2-3 year deals max, I’m ok with that. Otherwise, you’re looking to trade for those guys.

How is it embarrassing for the Pelicans that they can prevent the Lakers from having enough room for another max contract if they want?

So three of your top 4, maybe 4 of your top 7-8 are 21 or younger. It’s not hard to see how that can be problematic.

Right, I get that. What I'm saying is I'd rather us not make the Tyreke + Ryno + Cornerstone re-signing mistakes of 13-14. I'm fine with overpaying for a vet or two within reason.

The young Pels made the playoffs and got swept by GS. People just assumed that they’d learn from such an experience and would take off the next year.

If I’m the new FO regime, I’m setting a cultural foundation with players around the league that I like so that my game-changing draft pick and new players departing a dumpster fire organization can see how a real organization functions.

Can we say they both are... But the Pelicans did just hire a front office staff that seems competent

Yea. I’m under no delusion that the Pels’ organization has been terrible. But they’re essentially under new ownership and management, so at least they have a clean slate.

You're taking that a little too personally.

The Lakers may or may not be entering a new golden era but last year they were by far the most dysfunctional franchise in the league.

I think most reasonable fans feel like this year is a good rebuild year with young players. Next season will be when things probably start turning around big time but these picks this year have me excited long term. Zion is just extremely fun to watch.
