ELI5: Why is Aaron Rodgers considered a better QB than Brees?

I'm dead serious with this question.

Put Rodgers in the Coors Field of the NFL and see what his numbers are. Rodgers is a better QB than Brees.
Posted on 10/31/24 at 9:53 pm to magildachunks
Because peak Aaron Rodgers is virtually unmatched. Highest QBR in NFL history. Unbelievable talent. The throw in 2016 to end Dallas' season jumps to mind. Brees was elite but also played in a dome with Sean Payton and his throw first philosophy on full display. Rodgers has won in spite of coaching. I'll put it to ya like this, if Rodgers would have played all of those years under Payton instead of Brees, who do you think has the better resume?

He's not. Brees is so underrated. Maybe because he played in New Orleans.

Same amount of SBs as Brees.
"virtually unmatched"

Brees was in a better offense with more talent around him but Rodgers threw a prettier ball

I'd argue that Brees made the talent around him
Look what happened to everyone that left. Their production went down phenomenally.

Because Rodgers didn't turn the ball over, that's about it. Rodgers had some massive up and down seasons.
Lets compare Rodgers in 2009 (2nd full season) until 2022 (15th season) from age 26 to 39: 207 games
4625/7065 (65.5 completion%)
54688 yards
7.7 YPA
446 TDs (6.3 TD%)
91 INTs (1.3 INT%)
104.6 Rating
487 sacks
vs Brees from 2006 (1st season as a Saint) until 2019 (14th season as a Saint) from age 27 to 40: 216 games
5742/8352 (68.8 completion%)
65068 yards
7.8 YPA
467 TDs (5.6 TD%)
184 INTs (2.2 INT%)
101.3 Rating
315 sacks
What's wild is this:
Rodgers' 4 MVP seasons
63 games:
1422 completions
2079 attempts
68.4 completion%
17438 yards
8.39 YPA
168 TDs
20 INTs
116.96 Rating
Brees 4 top passer rating seasons (3 of which were 2nd place MVP -- one each to Mahomes, Rodgers, and Manning)
57 games
1476 completions
2038 attempts
72.4 completion%
16835 yards
8.26 YPA
139 TDs
34 INTs
112.64 Rating
Its really absurd he didn't win just 1.

Great post that definitely proves Arod better than Brees both on and off the field

Brees is probably a better locker room leader. Rodgers can be a headcase.
Brees is definitely more of a guy you buy into. Him and Payton were perfect complements of each other. This has its drawbacks though since you could argue that Brees needed Payton more than Rodgers needed any HC he's had.
Brees is probably on par with Rodgers for sheer accuracy (once the ball left his hands) and he had a very pretty deep ball.
Rodgers is better than Brees in almost every other category though. He has a bigger arm, better mobility, and better size. His improv was great. He threw very few interceptions. Efficiency was off the charts. Despite his gaudy stats I don't believe he was ever top 3 in yards or attempts during a season. Mastered dead ball stuff better than anyone I can remember--hard counts, play clock, timeouts.
And someone check me on this but wasn't their H2H heavily in Rodgers' favor? Something like 5-2 if I had to guess.
They're both elite top 10 QBs and nobody disputes Brees's gift, but Rodgers was just a hair better.

Unless he was playing literally any 49ers team.

All of this. Rodgers absolute peak is greater than his contemporaries. That throw against Dallas is the best throw I've ever seen
