Concern is that this is with EA. I can put up with 2ks micro transactions since they actually make a competent franchise mode and id trust them to handle dynasty well

EA on the other hand.....

ETA- they are the reason we went 11 years without NCAA Football. They sued over EA's NCAA Basketball

EA Sports, UCLA, and the NCAA were making money off of the game. The image/likeness of the 6'8, bald PF wearing #31 on the 1995 UCLA team who was "coincidentally" featured in the game wasn't.

If someone were to use your image/likeness to help sell their product I suspect you'd probably like somewhat of a cut of the money you are helping generate

And now the resultant NIL has ruined the sport.

Funny, now you have to defend the current state of college sports.

Tricky bird, that.

The schools are making millions. The NCAA is making millions. The conferences are making billions. The coaches are making millions.

Yet somehow the players are "amateurs" who shouldn't get to share in the massive amount of revenue they are helping generate.

The NFL and NBA generate billions in revenue largely through the following means:

TV/media rights contracts
Ticket/in-game purchases
licensing their trademarks for commercial use in everything from shoestrings to video games. In fact, the players associations of each league require compensation from the video game makers who want to use the NIL of the players.

The NCAA, SEC (or Big 10, etc) and their member schools generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue largely through the following means:

TV/media rights contracts
Ticket/in-game purchases
licensing their trademarks for commercial use in everything from shoestrings to video games.

Seems like the exact same, lucrative, business model

I’ll never forget having a friend who bragged about being ranked in the top 900 players in the country and I smoked him 3 games in a row. Used to play religiously.

Very few D1 athletic departments turn a profit.

I still remember building my own stadium in a corner field with a 290 ft left field.

revenues are different from profit. They don't turn great profits because they have a lot of very unprofitable "products" within the "company". Most notably, but not exclusively, women's basketball. But it's not the fault of the football and men's basketball players that the schools have a lot of unprofitable products. They are the part of the line generating the millions (nearly billions) in revenue. For example, the men's NCAA basketball tournament alone generates nearly a billion dollars annually for the NCAA through the TV rights.

"Amateur" sports are high school sports. There are no significant media deals. The cost to attend a game is minimal. Outside of maybe a few people in the town no one is selling t-shirts, hats, dog collars, etc with the HS's logo on it generating millions in revenue.

football and men's basketball are billion-dollar ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS masquerading as "amateur sports." It's been that way for decades. The players and courts just finally accepted that reality relatively recently.

Do I like it as a college sports fan? Not really. But when conferences are signing TV contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars I understand why a big part of that business (i.e. the players) feel they deserve a share of that revenue.
