So Marino was considered better than Montana because of stats but brees gets downgraded because stats arent everything?
Makes sense.

Montana was a great quarter back in a great system. Marino was a great system. Bill Walsh said this

Sure, but not many teams had personnel to match.
Wait. So now we are ranking QBs by the teams GM?
When do the goal posts stop moving in order to keep Brees down? Apparently until they are completely out of the stadium and we arent really talking about football anymore.

No. Name the top 10 running back of the 80’s. Then show me their receiving numbers.
Then do each decade afterwards. The numbers improve.

Brees has played for 3 different head coaches and had pro bowl/All Pro seasons every time.
So...
But on that note - that's why I have manning over Brady. Manning, like Brees proved he brought good QB play wherever he was or to whomever the coach was at the time.
Whereas we have tons of evidence to prove NE is good at QB no matter who is at the helm over the last 20 years.

Again - at least Brady, Montana, and Favre played in this so what's your point

All of the QBs in that time played under those rules, yet Staubach was only voted all-Pro once, and it was as a second teamer. Considering he played at a time when no other guy on this list was in the league, that's quite the knock.
Staubach played in the league 11 years, but only started 8 full seasons. During that time he led his team to 4 SBs, won two and had a record of 85-29 as a starter.
Brees is in his 19th year and was a starter 18 of those. He has gone to one SB and won it. His career record as a starter is 162-111.
Staubach had more team success and was just more famous. I'm not shocked he got picked. He is a legend. Played on the biggest stage for one of the most popular teams and starred. Plus with his military service, charitable work and huge business success, the guy is revered in all NFL circles. Trying to tear him down to elevate Brees is just petty..

So this list was really list of the best GMs and coaches all time

its opened up the entire field for QB's today, allowing for better completion percentages

Yea but Brees played at the same time as Brady and Favre (relatively here)
And he blows them out of the water production wise in the same system
So
Any way you spin it, it won't matter

Accuracy numbers compared to other eras means little in this era where both QBs and WRs are coated in bubble wrap. The league averages are so much higher in this era.
Staubach was far above his peers in QB rating. Your boy Brees hasn't seperated himself to that degree from the pack in this age of pinball numbers.

Im not arguing against Brees, I believe he is a top 5 qb all-time. I was responding to the higher completion relative to those of decades past.
The running back and tight end position has changed greatly in the past 20 years. This only helps the Qb, along with the rules

ETA: Anderson had a 15 point higher QB rating than Staubach.

Brees has better stats than the QBs of his own generation that made the list. There's not even a need to go further back than that. But, whatever.

System QB with less bowls than Fat Rapey Ben
Not even HOF worthy so of course not top 10 all time

Doesn’t matter. People will look back at how stupid things like this are. Brees will be considered top 5 when it’s all said and done years down the line. Things like this and stupid awards like MVP (total trash, although this year they’ll no doubt get it right with Lamar). Brees will benefit from history more than any other qb, ever.

I'll take that bet. In a few years (after the NFL adds two more games), when guys are passing for 6,000 yard seasons and 60tds while completing 80%, people are going to laugh at the QB production right now. Unless the rules change, that is where it is going..

Brees has separated himself from Manning/Brady, but most people just want to close their eyes or stick their fingers and there ears and go "la la la" and not hear or see that Brees absolutely has separated himself.
Passer Rating
Completion %
TD %
INT %
YPA
If you compare Brees/Brady/Manning and rank them for their regular season careers at these stats, here are the results with their avg ranking:
Brees - 1.6
Manning - 2.0
Brady - 2.2
So you can see, Brees is better than the other 2. Also very important to note: Brees is 1st or 2nd in each of the 5 categories, he is not 3rd in any single category
But they say count the rings, Brady is better "when it matters" in the playoffs. But is he? Let's look at the same thing but for the postseason for the 3 QBs:
Brees - 1
Brady - 2.2
Manning - 2.6
Yes, that is correct, Brees is 1st in all 5 categories, or like you said, has clearly separated himself from the other 2
Where do we move the goalposts next to try and say Brees isn't as good as Manning/Brady?
