Don’t know why more teams don’t do what Clemson just did to end the first half

Throw more Hail Marys to hyper athletic receivers and make it basically a jump ball against their DBs
Clemson almost scored doing that
Edit for the retarded: this is referring to the end of the first half, yes you dense shite heads I know about game ending Hail Marys, typically I see teams just take a knee to be conservative.

Could’ve gone either way virtually, came down to the db vs receiver wrestling for it

The Hail Mary has been in football for as long as I can remember. Clemson didn’t expose some loophole.

Coaches are very risk averse.

Because it’s more likely something bad will happen (int, QB gets hit and injured, etc) than scoring a TD

What made this unique? Where were they on the field? Everyone who’s within the 40s does this.

Teams do this all the time. Not sure where you've been.

I don’t think teams aren’t doing it…it’s just a low probability play. Defense knows where it’s going and they only have to knock it down. And there’s a non-zero possibility of a pick-6 which is obviously not how you want to go into the locker room.
If you’re on your own 40 and things haven’t been working right for you offensively, might just want to kneel it and get ready for the next half

Are you new to football?

I have found that the vast majority of teams do NOT do this and actually take a knee to reduce risk of pick 6, which I don’t feel is all that likely. I seldom see teams do the Hail Mary to end the first half, end of game of course, but rarely first half.

Why not just recruit tall athletic receivers and throw Hail Marys on every play? You could save a frick ton on coaching salaries alone.
