Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump · 19h I'd bet the horrible look of Pinehurst translates into poor television ratings.
Kaymer dominating and no Tiger is what did that. If it was close and if Tiger played, it would have been great.

Do you watch the Masters?

I will add I do think the natural areas should be much thicker/dense
It would have been thicker but the drought in the area caused the grass to not grow. And the course has gone green to eliminate water usage so they did not water the native areas. If they would have done that, it would have been tougher.
Regardless Kaymer would have still won. He played too damn good on Thursday and Friday!

1. To showcase the USGA's focus on sustainability and water-conservation.
2. To restore the course to its original landscape.
How bad was it? I didn't watch the Open, but I've played golf at various Pinehurst courses several times and it's always been a great place to spend a week. I have a hard time picturing what's being described here, though, admittedly, it's been four or so years since I last played there.

Ironically, Trump just purchased Turnberry
I dont know why people were freaking out. Brown grass isn't a new thing for majors. Just watch the British open almost every year.

The course looked like crap to people who don't understand golf course set up. It was exactly how they planned for it. Trump is the worst course owner of anyone. He is too involved and too worried about actual looks then actual playability. The crew that works for him always say they will never do it again. If a flower is light red instead of red he makes them change everyone around it. Idiot.

Wasn't bad, just different than most are used to seeing for US Open's and certainly not what they are used to seeing for the Masters.
One of the biggest challenges to keeping courses operational is the maintenance and water budgets. This was the USGA's way of showing the public that courses can be well-maintained and in great condition despite heavy irrigation and maintenance budgets.
Look for the same to be talked about at Erin Hills which was built for around $1M IIRC.

Every single superintendent would be thrilled if the USGA, PGA, etc. would do more stuff to show people that courses don't have to look perfect to play perfect.
Unrealistic member expectations is the number one source of headaches for superintendents. Mostly due to Augusta National and other PGA venues.
