Most have the top tier correct here. Indiana and UCLA are blue bloods. UConn is second tier, but ahead of Villanova for sure. They are right there with Louisville and Mich St. Gonzaga is maybe third tier until they get a couple titles. shite, Butler has been to more title games in the last 10 years than Gonzaga.

No they haven’t. They’ve each been to two since the 2009 season. Butter went in 2010 and 2011. Gonzaga in 2017 and 2021.

Whats so funny about that? Ohio State is 6th all time in Final Fours. I was simply pointing out that Ohio State is ahead of Michigan State...is this thread not about Michigan State being a Blue Blood? If they aren't even ahead of Ohio State, then they aren't a Blue Blood...period!!

Sorry, your team isn’t a blue blood. Probably because they are in the same state as, and overshadowed by, Kentucky. Just the way it is.
And are the less-regal and revered program by far, which matters in these discussions I think.

This is the best troll attempt I've ever seen.

I think in order to be a blue blood you need to at least be a "basketball school".
Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, etc. go all in on basketball and the players, recruits and fans know it. Michigan State is more of a hybrid like Oklahoma State. Their fans were probably more worried about Jeff Smoker's drinking problem than Izzo chasing a repeat title.
They do have a pretty solid basketball resume though. For example they have won more NCAA tournament games than all but five teams - Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Kansas and UCLA. In a sport that puts most of it's marbles in one showcase event, that's tough to ignore.

My bad. Point remains, they cannot possibly get into the top 15 even without a title (and really more than 1 title).
ETA: Schools like Gonzaga, Arkansas, Ohio State, or Michigan can go to all the Final Fours they want, but until any of those win more than 1 title, they are firmly third tier or below.

Blue Bloods - UCLA, Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, Indiana, UNC
On the cusp - Villanova, Arizona, Michigan State, UConn, Syracuse, Gonzaga, Louisville

Are Final Fours not a major deciding factor? There are a lot of schools being thrown around that have no business being on lists. If you aren't in the top 10 in Final Fours....GTFO!!!!

Ohio St has 1 title yet you have them 6th all-time.

Ohio State:
National Championships - 1
Final Four - 11
Elite Eight - 15
NCAA - 35
B1G Championships - 22
Indiana:
National Championships - 5
Final Four - 8
Elite Eight - 11
NCAA - 40
B1G Championships - 22
Michigan State:
National Championships - 2
Final Four - 10
Elite Eight - 14
NCAA - 35
B1G Championships - 16
If Michigan State and Indiana are "Blue Bloods"...then so is Ohio State.

It may not be fair, but part of being a blue blood is perception, and Ohio State will never be perceived as a blue blood of college basketball.
You can feel good about your school's hoops history, however ancient it may be, but it doesn't make you a blue blood.

Haha, quit trying to justify Ohio St as any kind of bball powerhouse. Final Fours dont really start counting until you win multiple titles. After 2 titles, you start looking at Final Fours and total appearances. 1 title in 10 appearances doesn't make Ohio State anything really.
Posted on 3/22/22 at 2:59 pm to Buckeye Backer
If you have fewer titles than Florida, well...you ain't a blue blood.

Indiana
They've been in the final four 2 times in the last 30 years. So while they're a historical blue blood because of 5 national championships, they're nowhere near a blue blood based on recent performance.
Another proof point...against Wisconsin since 2008, Indiana is 3-24.

All those final fours, but Izzo has not been great once he gets there.
1999 - Lost in Final Four
2000 - National Champs
2001 - Blowout loss in Final Four
2005 - Blowout loss in Final Four
2009 - Blowout loss in Championship
2010 - Lost in Final Four (Butler)
2015 - Blowout loss in Final Four
2019 - Lost in Final Four (Texas Tech)
