A voluntary system where amateurism was a known rule.
They benefited because they have a mass allegiance of fans to capitalize on day 1 after going pro.
There were kids who went straight to the G league who do not have this.

The dumbarse administration at NLU, that decided to go from 1AA to D1, said they were doing it to make a bunch of money. Now every year the coaches of all of the sports talk up a student athletic fee. How bout you go back to being what you're good at. Play in a regional conference where you have real rivalries. Go back to playing FCS football in the Southland conference and go back to being a big fish in a little pond. Winning will bring the fans back. Go beat McNeese, Northwestern State and Nichols State, and watch a bunch more G5 teams follow suits.
student population will never approve a $65 athletics fee on their tuition so probably won’t be the last cut.

Maybe they have, but who sees it? Coaches may be paid more and the amenities for the program may be a little nicer, but the fans don’t really see it

Times are tough. Cost of most things has increased exponentially.

Agree. Those idiots trying to get an education should have to pay for athletics. 11k students need to pony up so a select few can bowl and play volleyball on scholarships
Athletics helps the brand of your university. Increased enrollment, funding and buzz.
I am not speaking about bowling, sand volleyball… those make sense. But they needed that for football and basketball. The brand (which means the students degrees) was massively affected when basketball beat Duke a few years back.

The reason more people recognize the school across the country is because yall are in D1-FBS.

It was a known rule, and it enabled the system to exist at all. Outside of the universities, there is no big market for this level of sports.
They killed the golden egg laying goose.

Reality is no one watches those sports at the collegiate level anyway.

I was at LaTech several years ago for their spring game. As we passed the tennis courts, where about a dozen people seemed to be in the bleachers, one of our guys ( a Tech student) said, "Believe it or not, that's a Division One sports event".

It’s huge enterprise for them.
Now that we have made college sports only about money keeping any sport besides football and basketball makes no sense. Cut them all
