Correction, SEC & ACC schools. BIG has some ESPN $$ but is partnered with Fox. BIG is also going to start new media talks too. They could dump ESPN entirely and go Fox/CBS if they chose.

BIG have far more money in their pocket from ABC/ESPN than the new Fox money (obviously a better deal but still new)

Good luck with that.I can't picture CBS coming close to paying market value. They flat out refused to renegotiate the SEC deal when they were ten's of millions off the SEC.

Losing the SEC may have CBS feeling the error of their ways. They could buy back into CFB at the new market rate with the BIG.

Just saying, you never know.

The board is tired of having to cover for ESPN losses. ESPN bleeds cash, Board tired of it, they are there to make bank, not fund a sports station with profits.

This is an interesting point you bring up. CBS was pretty much stealing money for roughly the past 10 to 15 years of their contract with the SEC. This was not a secret by any means, but well known by the commissioner who entered the agreement - Roy Kramer. He, wisely, surmised that the long-term value was in creating a national brand for the SEC and he was willing to end up with the short end of the stick for the back end of the contract to get it done.

Now, you have CBS who is trying to decide if they want to pay market value for the SEC, which is arguably the biggest brand in college football and still growing, or cash in from the previous contract and buy up a less valuable, but potentially more lucrative deal with a lesser conference.

At the end of the day, they are looking for return on investment over prestige. They may be willing to let a different network pay through the nose for the best college football for the next 25 years. After all, they already made their money and then some on the last contract.

25 years from now streaming will take over all forms of sports entertainment.

I hope not because that greed will be the end of college sports. Instead of streaming insert PPV, because that is what it will be. You can view it behind a paywall. College sports will go the way of boxing. College sports needs to be "free" and available over network TV.

Not sure why you need an ESPN spinoff when they can't even fill the regular channel with real sports outside of College Football and Basketball. Sorry Cornhole lovers

Now part of AT&T and my understanding is they're trying to dump CNN but not sure about other Turner properties...which are more profitable BTW

AT&T is merging their Warner properties with Discovery and forming a new company, WD.

Kramer retired in 2002, it was the late Mike Slive who signed the 15 year deal in 2008.

It would be interesting to see if Amazon would continue the woke bullshite on ESPN to the extent Disney was.

Spoiler Alert : They will.

You just know the employees that have been there for any extended period of time have seized control and created the same thing you see across the country with any large “woke” corporation. And if it’s not already at Amazon, it is only a matter of time till that cancer spreads. Don’t get me wrong, I actually agree and support many ideas that would be labeled “liberal” but imagining ESPN’s employee handbook or code of conduct makes me cringe. I’m sure their training is wackadoodle too. Maybe I’m in the minority but I’m just tired of getting that rammed down our throats when it appears average folks just wanna be left alone and allowed to make their own decisions.
