In the ever-changing media landscape, Disney is reportedly interested in spinning off ESPN, according to a report by Dylan Byers at Puck. Due to the popularity of cord cutting and streaming live sports, ESPN is tied up to long-term linear TV contracts, “there are now conversations happening regularly at Disney about whether or not to spin off ESPN,” a source told Byers.
Disney is under new leadership after former C.E.O. Bob Iger stepped down and was succeeded by Bob Chapek in early 2020. Iger, a sports fan, was known to be in favor of keeping ESPN under the Disney umbrella. Unlike his predecessor, Chapek is more analytical minded and reportedly isn’t invested in The Mouse being the home of the World Wide Leader in Sports.
Live sports remain one of the most popular assets when it comes to watching live TV, however, Byer’s report details what industry experts think of what Disney should do with ESPN in the world of streaming, noting that private equity firms have been encouraging a spin-off for years with Iger responding that “ESPN would never leave Disney under his watch.”

I’d buy that for a dollar.

I hope they do this so I can stop having to explain to my parents that ESPN plus doesn’t actually come with any of the ESPNs

I can't help but think that ESPN getting out from under Mickey's gaze would be a good thing.

Well… bye.
If ESPN is no longer getting subsidized by the Mouse House to buy up all the broadcast rights for major sports, they are going to be in a world of hurt unless they start cutting the Stephen A Smiths of the company.

Disney is a garbage company that is willing to destroy valuable intellectual property to push their fascist woke politics. They are the number one reason for ESPN’s decline. Disney should also sell Star Wars, another brand they shat to pieces with their full blown woke AIDS.

I mean who can even afford it? It's got to be a pretty small handful of companies who can afford both the initial purchase price as well as take on the long term commitments of those tv contracts.
Fox
CBS
Comcast
AT&T
WarnerMedia
Maybe Turner?

Amazon. I read somewhere recently they might be interested, them and someone else but I don't remember who the other was

Does this mean I no longer have to listen to woke bull shite when I'm watching sports? If so, then sign me the frick up for a sports network that actually just reports, you know, fricking sports.

Amazon buying ESPN would be extremely interesting.

I just hope the new ownership wouldn't be woke. Get back to the core business of live sports and highlights and get away from opinion shows and human interest topics.

The only ones that could afford this are multi-billion dollar corporations. You know, the ones that change their logos to rainbow colors because they're helping. The woke aspect of ESPN isn't going anywhere.

Is a penny pinching arse clown that is trying to monetize everything under the Disney brand. He won’t be in this position for long.

It would be interesting to see if Amazon would continue the woke bullshite on ESPN to the extent Disney was.

He must’ve watched a daytime espn debate show and said “wtf is this crap?”.

ESPN is a sinking ship unless they can get out of some of their deals with the NBA etc...
